Meh. You think there were no wars in North and South America or Africa for the first 600 years of the last millenium?

Those cultures were simply too backwards or weak to have their history chronicled.

Neat animation idea, but it looks like the author thinks that the Americas & the Far East had no warfare for 500-600 years.

eta –– Or, as the poster above also noted, Africa.

Recording those wars I assume is difficult. At least in the Far East and Americas.

The native peoples of Africa, N & S America were in a constant state of brutal tribal warfare, it is just overlooked because we are supposed to admire those cultures.

You don't think a lack of documentation plays into the hands of the cultural utopians who paint a peaceful/harmonious picture of native peoples?

Native peoples generally got fucked when first introduced to Europeans.  However this no reason to elevate the good, and overlook the bad parts of their cultures as we see them today.  In my experience, this is how things are presented.

Yep;  in tribal cultures, constant conflicts between groups were the norm, rather than the exception.

It's always been interesting to me how the more technologically advanced and agrarian societies in the American Southwest went to great troubles to fortify their villages and crop stores into the sides of canyons and cliffs.    I don't think they were protecting themselves from hairy mammoths.

This is why I laugh at the "New Europeans" talking about peace and cooperation and not needing to resort to violence.

You don't erase centuries of cultural tendencies with one generation.  Western Culture is a violent culture.  It's simply better than all of the other violent cultures.

Or lack of scale.

800 Mayan tribesmen fighting 600 Mayan tribesmen from a neighboring citistate with sticks and stone tools isn't exactly a "war" in the same sense as huge Roman legions rampaging across Gaul, giant persian armies invading Europe, or crusades in the holy land.

I think the video is "biased" in favor of large scale battles.  Compare how it shows the Thirty Years War with how it shows the Napoleonic Wars.  The former was much more violent and deadly than the latter, but because Napoleon's strategy of favoring decisive battle over a protracted conflict, his wars are more visible in the video.

1.  It would be interesting to know the authors methodology.

2.  Lots of battles in Japan were on the map... China seemed lacking, but I don't know enough Chinese history to know why.

3.  Casualty figures from wars in antiquity are notoriously unreliable.  Hell, we don't know how many died during WW2.

From Agincourt to Waterloo
Poitiers and then Anjou
The Roses War, the Hundred Years
Through battlefields of blood and tears

From Bosworth Field to Pointe Du Hoc
Stalingrad and the siege of York
The bloody turf of Gallipoli
Had no effect on the killing spree

Bannockburn to Austerlitz
The fall of France and the German blitz
The cruelest of atrocities
Europa's blood is born of these

Heaven help in all our battles
Heaven see love, heaven help us

Bolsheviks and feudal lords
Chivalry to civil wars
Fascist rule and genocide
Now we face the rising tide

Of new crusades, religious wars
Insurgents imported to our shores
The western world, gripped in fear
The mother of all battles here

Heaven help in all our battles
Heaven see love, heaven help us
Avant hier, avons être
Déja demain, (nous) sommes éclairée

All glory, all honor
Victory is upon us
Our savior, fight evil
Send armies to defend us

Empires built, and nations burned
Mass graves remain unturned
Decendants of the dispossessed
Return with bombs strapped to their chests

There's hate for life, and death in hate
Emerging from the new caliphate
The victors of this war on fear
Will rule for the next thousand years

All glory, all honor
Victory is upon us
Our savior, fight evil
Send armies to defend us
Europa, Europa
Find better days before us
In kindness, in spirit
Lead us to a greater calling

Europa, Europa
Find better days before us
In kindness, in spirit
Lead us to a greater calling

Leningrad, Berlin wall
March on Rome, Byzantium's fall
Lightning war, Dresden nights
Drop the bomb, end this fight!

Never again!

Its a load of bull conveniently timed so  there is not oen battle as Islam spread, China is quite even though there were 4 dynastic changes, and Japan is quite too.  Don't get me started on the Americas.

Who ever put that together made a nice attempt but come on, it is eurocentric.

huh?

Many areas have incomplete histories, but whoever did this was being VERY selective about what battles to include.

We have a lot of info on Ghengis Khan's wave of wars and conquests, yet those don't appear on this movie.

I also figured that the size of the explosions were important, like maybe battle-size...but look how small the Battle of Gettysberg is, yet the body count was staggering!  Plenty of minor euro-wars had much bigger explosions.

This is true...part of the reason we were able to win against the Brits was that they were involved in a lot of other military conflicts and boating troops over to control some unruly colonists was too much trouble

Wow! You can really tell the difference when Napoleon starts his march across Europe. The shit really hit the fan at that point.
They snubbed the battle at Gettysburg, I figured that would have had a LARGE explosion to represent it. 55k casualties in just 3 days. C'mon.
