Was standing near the gas stove and was reaching to pick up a plate that was sitting on the burner and BAM got hit by a spark from the uncoated part of the burner. Hit me in the pinkie finger and I felt the shock up my arm. There was thunder at almost the exact same time so it had to be from a nearby lightning strike traveling up the gas line.

I feel fine and there are no burn marks or anything.

My brother and his wife are here now, they think I should go to the hospital and get a test.

What say ARFCOM.

If the answer is YES to any of the above, then maybe..

A lot of people who are struck by lightening usually become gay within 96 hours of being struck. There's a lot of documentation on the phenomenon in both the medical and psychological community. Apparently that much electricity does funny things to the wring of the brain.

I got hit just about the same way about 20 years ago. My gf said I lit up like a neon sign and my arm was numb for about a half hour. Other than that no problems. Oh yeah, one other thing; it stung like a mother.

If you start throwing up, get faint, feel weak, have sudden vision problems, or experience heart attack symptoms, then get your butt to the ER.

Fo, immediately. That test for extra electricity residing in your system is most accurate as soon after the lightning strike as possible. Especially when there are no associated symptoms to the strike, like smoking, flailing, blown off limbs & general discomfort. If the first test is negative, try again, as it is notorious for false negatives the first time..

No, it really is true that there is a direct positive statistical correlation. Non-fatal lightning strikes and other high voltage events have been known to affect the victim's orientation. I don't know that it's ever been PROVEN, though.

there is a test you can do:

Put a light bulb in your mouth, insert a metal object in the nearest outlet. If the bulb lights up, your ok. If not try a higher voltage outlet.

In all reality look for an exit hole near your feet. If it cauterized you may not feel it. Are you having palpitations ? These are associated with adverse electrical activity. In all you would be dead by now if it was going to get you. It probably was just static discharge.

Unless you were 3 or 4 feet away from the stove, I wouldn't worry about it. I've been hit by regular static charges (stretch wrapping aluminum cages sitting on plastic pallets-they acted like giant capacitors) from a foot and a half or so. If it didn't knock you down, burn your hand, stop your watch or kill your phone, don't clog up the ER with bullshit.
