I am trying to get more info on this knife. Ive looked at them online but have not seen any with the carving on the side of the handle. I would think this might increase the value but I am not sure. Not a knife buff and I want to get the details before I try and sell it. Seems to be in great conditon considering the age. The date thats carved into the handle is Dec 25 1944..Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ya mine has the same mark on the blade. ( can you guys load the link of my photos?). Do you know the current value for the knife?

IMHO it looks OK but to me the "stock art" would take away from the value. There is a minty one like yours at a LGS and they are asking $750.00. It's still there though.

They live in the woods and have cigarette smoking dogs.

They were issued to Fallschirmjägers (paratroopers) for cutting themselves out of rigging. The ring is for a lanyard and the knife was tucked into a snapped pocket on the FJ trousers.

Still are I think, or were fairly recently.  I've seen the plastic handled newer versions.

Ask your question here:

Retake the photos with the knife on a plain white background before posting there. That's how Mr. Levine prefers it.

Also, read the sticky so you get it right the first time.

Im really trying to find out how much i can get for the knife.. I see them ranging from 700 - 1500. But that doesnt mean anything.Forgot to say  mine has no signs of sharpening on the blade.Hard to show that in photos so i didnt even try.

Always liked those knifes. Is there a modern production being done of them with better materials?

I'm not sure about "better", but there are plastic handled ones out there.  They're not terribly expensive either.  The mechanism that locks the blade out isn't very sturdy though, and the whole thing is a lot heavier than it needs to be.  There's a marlinspike kind of deal that folds into the handle in an inconvenient manner for stabby stuff, and the blade itself comes about butter knife sharp.  All in all, it might be a fine knife for it's intended purpose, but I think it'd be a PITA to use for anything else.

Manufacturer's mark indicates a stainless steel blade (Rostfrei)-would that be very common before/during WWII?

My gut says fraud.

My gut has no qualifications to make that determination beyond being my gut though.

Take those pictures over the Bernard Levine's forum. You'll get an answer for sure, but I'm guessing you won't like it very much.

Yes, and it would be Dezember, making the abbreviation Dez.

Now I'm curious to know if it is, and it probably is since he knows the source

Which means that, if it's authentic, that was likely carved by the GI that brought it back.

Not that I have seen.  I have been looking for one for the last 15 years.  It might be an original handle with a newer blade

Christmas Day '44 likely means trying to sell it with a BoB tie in.
