In the spirit of this thread, which jet (American or otherwise) looks best with afterburners burning?

Some to get started:

and some test shots, just because

Meh, why not. All these were taken by me at work.

Not in burner, but still a cool shot because you can see the flameholder still glowing.

Dassault Falcon 20 w/ab

Not exactly in the same league as the SR71/F-15, but interesting.

This is a ground test of the XLR-99.  Makes a jet engine look like baby shit.

When i worked for Grumman Aerospace i was about 75 yds away from an F-14 that was doing a full power engine test with both burners lit.  It was an unbelievable display of power that i cant even put into words.     F-14!!

Garrett Turbine Engine Co. Falcon 20 flight test airplane with TFE1042-?? afterburning turbofan on one side.  The engine has heritage dating back to the TFE 731 biz-jet turbofan and was developed by Garrett with at least one international (Taiwanese??) partner for the Taiwan Indigenous Fighter. The engine with AB had around 9500lbf thrust.  I think they (now Honeywell) may still be making them or maybe a non-afterburning drivative.

Still make 'em.  They're new-build in the M346 trainer (non-afterburning).

Great pics dude.  I wish I got to see stuff like that at work.  American military jets give me so much pride in our engineering and military programs.  Just a quick question though, do you know what the two letter codes stand for on the tails?  I saw WA and thought maybe state but then I saw OT so I don't know. Also whats up with the paint schemes?

damn...

As a young Boy Scout, I was mesmerized for decades after witnessing an F-15 full-power take off.

Not technically an afterburner shot but a F-111 fuel dump and burn always looked cool.

I love the Mig 25/31. Huge engines, F-15-like body lines, and the related XB-70 history.

OT is Eglin AFB in Florida

Almost!
White checkered OT is Eglin
Green checkered OT is Nellis

WA = Weapons Academy, it's the airforce version of Navy's Top Gun school
OT = Operational Test, they basically test new components and what not before the rest of the AF gets them.
ATG on A2028 = Adversary Tactics Group, they are the aggressor squadron from Nellis. A2028 was the flagship since it was the very first jet to get that paint job.

For the most part the 2 letter code will tell you the base initials except for some exceptions.
WA/OT =  Nellis or Eglin AFB depending on what color checkered. They're sister squadrons basically
FF = First Fighter wing out of Langley AFB

With state's intials
LA = The active duty B-52 squadron from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. BD coded B-52's belong to the reserve unit at the other end of the ramp.
AK = Alaska used by Eielson and Elmendorf AFB. They have different aircraft so you can distinguish which came from where.
OK = Tinker AFB in Oklahoma
One's I can think of off the top of my head, but you know where they're from after being in for awhile (tells us aircraft maintainers which base has the good aircrafts/location so we can dream of getting an assignment there. LOL)

If I wasn't so busy fixing those jets, I could have got way more pictures.

WA comes from the Base's original use, as a civilian airport for Western Air Express.  The weapon school at Nellis has never been referred to as "weapons academy" at least in the 6 years I was stationed there or the 14 years since.

Do you mean a GE F110-100?  The F100 is a Pratt engine.

Edit:
Not afterburning, but awesome nonetheless, STS-135!!!
