http://carrboro.com/gimghoulcastle2.jpg Gimghoul castle in Chapel Hill. It's a cool building but there's nothing actually historic about it. I love a good ghost story despite being a skeptic, but even the backstory to the ghost story appears to be completely contrived (as opposed to a myth with at least some basis in fact) Ha! Been there in the woods many a nights with a large group back in the day. There's a history behind The Order of Gimghoul. |

Mothbolled fleet of old Navy ships stationed in the Neches River. This is not too far from my house. Not sure what that structure is in the bottom left, looks like the superstructure of an aircraft carrier? Not sure though, there are many that are not pictured, most are old Navy cargo and re-fueling ships.

Jolly Green Giant on the hillside outside of town. The cannery in town used to process all the asparagus for Green Giant. The cannery is closed now, all the equipment sent to Peru about 10 years ago. The asparagus that is coming out of Peru now is shit compared to what was grown locally. Also the only guy to survive the Custer massacre is buried in the city cemetery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Finkel |
