FINALLY
A man who has dedicated nearly 30 years to building and living off of his 500-acre farm is facing having his entire way of life shut down by the state government.
Eustace Conway, 51, who has been called ‘The Last Great American Man’ for his rustic way of living, could lose his camp in the Appalachian Mountains, his home for the past three decades. The Watauga County Planning Department in North Carolina has found several health and sanitary violations in his encampment and has threatened to condemn the buildings. Link |

IIRC, he was running a camp that taught peple how to live primitively. Naturally that isn't very sanitary but NC should mind their own.

his lumber is not properly marked!!! even though he fells and cuts his own .gov can't have this we must make an example of this white guy |
If they are worried about this guys sanitation they should go tour some of the trailer hoods in the area. they would have a heart attack.
What a load of shit! The guy owns the land, he is not bothering anyone so why does the goberment feel the need to bother this guy? They should mind their own damn business and leave the people alone!
This type of shit will stop when there are consequences for their actions.
Until local people start standing up together, the gov(fed, state, local) will continue to run over us. |
This is a shot across the bow of anyone wanting to buy land and live "off the land"....gov't don't like that....
Non-labeled lumber! The whole place could go any minute! For your safety sir, we'll have to put you in prison for 9 years.

that tv show he did got him some unwanted attention Nothing good comes from the media.............ever. It is like a pet rattle snake, you only think you control it, but someday, it'll bite you. |

1. I guess that whole TV show thing wasn't such a good idea now. 2. There's probably some scum bag developer behind his (problems). |
That the same guy who was on the TV show? I see it is. I recognize his first name. I remember an episode where he was trying to show a newcomer how to shoot and not waste ammo IIRC.
Judging by some of the shit he pulled on the TV show I would say that he managed to fuck it up for himself...
The guy could live of the land that's for sure... Dealing with modern life and government proved to be quite challenging for him it seamed.. |

that tv show he did got him some unwanted attention Sooner or later people will figure out that all that attention is going to get the man in your life, so all your shit better be straight. It doesn't matter if you are pulling logs out of a river illegally, running a mine without all the safety shit, or you violated a building code. Giving the man evidence of you doing something wrong is an easy win for them. |
A prime example of an overreaching government. Leave this guy the F alone. If they are really worried about sanitation have a look at the thousands of tons of hog and chicken shit that leach into rivers and waterways every year.
Next thing you know he'll want to grow an illegal vegetable garden in his front yard. Nip it in the bud before chaos ensues.
Citizen Conway, you are fined 1000 credits for violation of the lumber marking and trafficking act. Be well.
In a free land his countrymen, friends and unknowns, would take up arms and stand by his side. In this land, we will bitch about how wrong this is and how our children won't know the freedoms our fathers knew. Poor guy.

North Carolina.
They really take the 'North' part of their name seriously, it seems. |

Mixed feelings. It sounded like he was running a summer camp for children. If a log cabin crashed down on a bunch of kids during a windstorm because the cabin didn't meet building code he'd never be able to pay off the lawsuits.

Well thank God the government was there to save those kids. I can't really express how fucked up that line of thought is. |
I'd venture to speculate that someone has an interest in his property and knows how to get it.

That whole self-reliance thing can give people the wrong idea. Can't have that.

It's a creative eminent domain application? not getting enough revenue out of such a large piece of property? |

Thats BULLSHIT!!! It's all going according to plan citizen. |

Someone down there is in need of something much bigger to worry about.

Quoted: Exactly, because if everything was to code and a wind storm blew it down and killed a bunch of kids, nobody would even consider filing a lawsuit.Quoted: Quoted: Mixed feelings.
