A couple years ago I had the chance to talk to a black businessman who emigrated from SA a few years after apartheid ended. I actually asked him if Mandela had made things better or worse for blacks. This isn't an exact quote, but close: "I was born in SA, raised there under apartheid and had a successful business and a mostly happy family. Then came Mandela and I lost everything, so I came here to try to start all over again." He told me the country was ruined, no chance for success anymore, just poverty. Apartheid was obviously wrong, but the current system is far worse in my eyes.

Yeah, he was a bad guy.
The SA Apartheid was a terrible thing led by an oppressive government. A government that deserved to be overthrown. However, the tactics employed by the communist Mandela and his buddies in the ANC are unforgivable. Murder/torture of civilians, racism, rape, killing kids? I won't be mourning his passing.
