Weird. Never heard of it except as a concept.

Been done twice at least , They made an older van based version and a 80's vintage fwd version .

Made them in the late 70s too.. They were a front wheel drive pickup..

They have been sold in Mexico for a couple of years. About the size of a Taco. http://image.eurotuner.com/f/editorials/2010-vw-amarok-pickup/26129054/2010-vw-amarok-pickup.jpg View Quote IIRC, it is a Taco for the most part. The predecessor was the VW Taro and was a toyota pickup with a WV badge. I see the current fwd VW pickup on the roads here on occasion. All have Mexican plates on them. Little FWD trucklets are apparently popular in MX. Chevy, Nissan and a couple of other manufacturers offer them. |

As a Jetta TDI owner since 2006, the lack of a small diesel pickup in this country rustles my jimmies. Hilux for the win.
|
|
Amarok is pretty nice. If I was in the market for a pickup, I'd either buy that one or the Hilux.

Chicken tax is the reason we'll never see one.
Its a kick ass truck, if they showed up here I would take my touareg and a3 in on trade, that day, first deliverd v6 tdi with 4motionx (locking differentials) and air suspension. |

That truck is about 20 years behind. Not saying its a bad truck, there fine for what they are. But it aint exactly upto the germans standards. Its based on the touareg. The tdi in it has more engineering time then all of yotas fleet of trucks, inckuding the helux, which uses a injection pump, like the tdi from 20 years ago. Yota, like nissan will just buy the updated tech from bosch if they ever wanna sell diesels in the us. The new common rail tdi is amazing. They keep making more power, running cleaner and using less fuel. The new v6 is getting close to rivslimg the old v10. |

From the Australia VW site (engrish!)

Friends of mine in the land down under have one.
She uses it to pull her horse trailer. Pretty stout little thing. |

They've been selling those for 2-3 years now. I'd definitely take a look at that and the Ford T6 if they were available here with a diesel. The rumored Frontier diesel is worth a look, but I'm not a big fan of Nissan.

I owned an 82 rabbit truck. the worked gas 1.8l got over 40 mpg.
it got totalled when I was side swiped by a jeep. me and 2 other guys picked it up and dragged off the road. I traded the totalled shell for 2 shocks. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
