Why does he need  this? It can't be so that he can regain the gun rights he lost in his felony conviction:

"

5. Mark Wahlberg

The ex-leader of the Funky Bunch, Marky Mark had some pretty strong words for Charlton Heston. At the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, Wahlberg suggested on stage that the "Best Villain” award be given to Heston: "I believe Charlton Heston is America’s best villain because he loves guns so much. Maybe he should get the award for being president of the National Rifle Association.” But his anti-gun attitude didn’t stop there. "Well, I would love it if they could take all the guns away. Unfortunately, you can’t do that so you hope that good people in the world have them to protect the people who can’t protect themselves,” he said in an April 26, 2007, edition of the Herald Sun. "Certainly, I haven’t used a gun anywhere other than on a movie set and I’d like to see if we could take them all away. It would be a beautiful thing.”

Any food not produced in a certified kitchen.  You should really go visit one sometime.  You could easily hit your arrest quota.

Mark Walhberg is trying to make it seem that he is the victim here.

The real victims are the guys he beat the hell out of.  There are probably more victims for which he never got caught.

http://news.yahoo.com/mark-wahlbergs-victims-divided-over-pardon-request-065151453.html

He wants to be pardoned so he can become a part-time cop.  Like Steven Segal.

Forgive him?  Absolutely yes.

Pardon him simply so he can play police officer on TV? Hell no.

I think common sense takes hold at some point.  I don't think assault rises to
child rape in any case.  There is a process in place to clear records, and it should
be followed.

If I had my way, I think you should be able to recover from some charges with the
consent of the aggrieved.

After all, it's them that were/are affected.

Who gives a fuck whether he's pardoned or not? And why should it matter to him?

It's just a PR stunt to say in the news.

What's not being considered is whether he should get a pardon for being a mouth-breather who delivers every line in a movie like he just sprinted two miles to the movie set.

It's called voter disenfranchisement, and in CA, felons can vote once they are out of jail and finish their parole period.  Therefore, Wahlberg can vote.

I see it this way--as a voter and a taxpayer it is my business and it is unjust to give him a pardon unless he makes it up with the victims. You wouldn't get a pardon for the same crime in Massachusetts, so special dispensation because he is  a "star" is bullshit.

I agree absolutely.

Either they're still dangerous and should still be behind bars or they've paid their debt to society and get to re-enter it. This half ass system we have today just sucks for all concerned from the tax payer and law enforcement to the convicted criminal.  Employers being able to see past convictions is rough as well since it seriously limits the jobs these guys can get after they get out.  Punishment should fit the crime and a life long punishment doesn't fit a lot of non-violent victimless felonies.

I would look better on him if he used his stardom to help the situation regarding this for other ex-cons, but he doesn't need to.. he already paid the price

Supposedly, he wants to sell alcohol, for which he needs a clean record.

On a completely unrelated note on "genuine remorse", for some reason I remembered what Lawrence Bittaker answered a few years ago when asked if he felt sorry for any of his victims. "How many times can I say that again? Yes. Yes. Yes. I'm truly sorry I was caught."

At some point, your record should be clean.

Agreed, It should be clean the day you walk out from behind the wire.

I don't care if he's remorseful or not, I don't care if he's an anti-gun douchenozzle.  He paid his debt.

I would look better on him if he used his stardom to help the situation regarding this for other ex-cons, but he doesn't need to.. he already paid the price

Also, why the fuck do his victims get a say? It's been 27 years.. If they can pull together a civil case, have at it, but enough is enough.

They have to deal with his acts for their whole lives.

Why should he get off easy?

If they give him dispensation....Well, who am I to stand against their will?
If he made a man blind in an eye, for the rest of his life do you think what
he got pays his debt?

This. We have a winner. He hasn't "changed" he just wants to get out of the long time stigma of the chit he did. If he really cares, he would give up some of his millions and try to make it up to his victims. Fuck him and his bullshit "sorry" crap.

If he's changed, you would have thought he would have tried to make things right with that Vietnamese guy he beat and blinded, but he's never even contacted him. Just another Hollywood fucktard IMO

Except he didn't blind the guy. The guy was blind before the assault. Lost his eye in the war in Viet Nam.
