Wait. Do we need more reasons than that?

Bruce Willis?

Mel Gibson?

Kudos for the soundtrack!  Not the usual extra loud, "turn it to 11", heavy metal bullshit every knuckledragging mouthbreather who can jerk a trigger seems to favor.

I won't deny it.... I bought into the hype too, and despite it being heavy for the caliber I *love* the MP5.

Hitting the side of an AR has nothing on whacking that forward paddle.

A friend of mine has several post dealer samples, including a converted Glock 17.

I would rate them in this order

MP5
9mm AR
Glock 17FA

Uzi

MP5 is awesome compared to the UZI.  It's really heavy and awkward.

MP5/10 is the correct nomenclature and it's actually a MP5/10 A3 because of the collapsible stock and Navy trigger group.

It also shows the much improved, extended selector lever.

ETA That's a HK94 conversion not a factory gun.

I really wanted to like the MP5. Even after hearing a funny story about a guy carrying one on mission in Afghanistan and being utterly useless with it.

They are fun to shoot but not really practical for its size and weight compared to other options now available. That's why I'm getting rid of my two clones.

Way back, I got to shoot a real full auto MP5SD.  So cool!  Extremely controllable, accurate as a laser, and damn near as quiet as the movies try to make them!

I do own a GSG5SD.  It's a hoot to shoot.  I keep toying around the idea of SBR'ing and Suppressing it....

I remember in Rainbow Six (book and the video game) the MP10mm.  Dunno if they ever got it out for real, or if it just remained in prototype land...

Ah, I see above they are indeed real and in different configs.

IIRC some of that is still being worked out (922r) but CZ is making some promises. Mags were, I think supposed to come in at $20 msrp.

Couple of my buddies have them.

They are 'meh'.

I've fired them but to be honest, its been years since and every time they bring them out, I don't shoot them.

Kind of like FA AK rifles, 'meh'.

I'm not a big HK fan, but the G3 derivitives are pretty awesome. I'd love to have a MP-5k or an HK-53k with the STANAG conversion that allows both AR mags and originals.

They're extremely fun to shoot. Accurate  and easy to manipulate.

Clunky, heavy for what they are, bad controls, no last round hold open, lots of optics get in the way of charging handle, trigger is meh, the Ks barrel is a tiny tiny bit shorter than a Glock 17/18s, and since I shoot my ARs collapsed the full-sized MP5 with stock out is same size as 10.3 AR.

They are reliable, I will give them that.

I'm not sure why someone wouldn't like the MP5, it is a great weapon in the proper role.  So are a lot of other weapons, and while 9mm might not be the most devastating round created, it works when applied as needed.

It is based on the UMP stock.

I love it. I sold the Choate stock Tgat came with the MP5k clone. Didn't feel nearly as nice.  Much prefer the B&T. It's more solid.

Wish I had the jingle for a sear pack, but Id probably buy NVG stuff or a SAN Sig 55X if I ever saved that up.

The one I shot was controllable, reliable, and fun.

The G18 was a hard to control, cyclic rate was too fast, and it wasn't fun to shoot.

I love me some MP5, but the guy has got some good points. First off, let's disregard the fact that the submachinegun largely has been replaced in military and LE applications by compact rifle caliber guns.

The ergos are pretty shitty. Selector is made for the hand of some yet undiscovered alien race. Charging handle is poorly placed, even though the 'HK slap' looks really awesome, until you smack your hand on your red dot. Speaking of RDS, it is severly lacking in the ability to properly mount an optic and still use irons. Speaking of irons, diopters are cool, but requiring a proprietary tool to zero is not. A3 stock is not the most comfortable, needs additional notches cut for different lengths of pull, and needs to not droop after heavy use. Needs bolt hold open (ala .40 and 10mm variant) added to 9mm. Mag changes could be a bit more forgiving.

Don't get me wrong, I died a little inside the day I had to turn mine in, but realistically I never used it except occasionally in training. Still love it, even if it is a bit of an outdated and extinct platform.
