I had a friend whose little sister had that done at about the same age. I remember being appalled. I don't even pierce my daughters' ears until they're old enough to ask to have it done and even then we wait until we know it's something they really want and not a passing fancy.

The ears worked ok for Will Smith. I have always hated my nose, i "think" it never shaped up, and looks the same as when i was a baby, I just deal with it, unlike my 2 cousins who had nose jobs by the time they were 18.

My ears stuck out like that when I was little. My parents got me surgery for them, but I was too small to remember. They look like normal ears these days, not like the Mom's ears in the video.
 My son's ears stick out slightly more than normal, but we're not going to do anything to them. Should be his choice when he's older. FWIW, I'm glad my parents had my ears done. Doesn't bother me. |

I'm not sure that people understand what 'bullying' actually is anymore.
Teasing is not bullying. All kids tease and get teased. My best man has ears that stick way out of his head. Looks kinda goofy. We used to tease him all the time about it. Friends fuck with each other. His daughter got his ears. But if she has friends as good as us? Yeah, she'll get teased, but no, it won't be a big deal.
It certainly isn't bullying. Bullying is methodical psychological and physical torture. Some jokes between friends is not bullying, and it's important to be able to tell the difference. |

Hair, girls can grow it. It covers up ears. I think the moms ears looked more funny. Speaking of funny. Funny how when you grow up most people seem to grow out of, or into their ears. Now if you're 40+, balding and have ears like that, you might consider doing something.

My little brother had ears that stuck out so bad that people called him Dumbo or Ears... I couldn't beat them all up and dad couldn't protect him from every gawking parent. They really didn't have a surgery back then to fix this either. The torment that he went through seemed relentless until he hit puberty and then he grew into his ears. I was very happy for him that the torment finally stopped.
Bottom line is kids are cruel and parents aren't much better. If you have the means to prevent this torment and prevent this from affecting their psyche, then why not. It is the same as kids getting braces for their teeth, wearing back braces to straighten out their backs, getting nose jobs to fix disfigured noses or the myriad of other abnormalities that kids have to endure. |

All of ours were born with extra pinkies. Runs on my husband's side. First kid's were removed at 3 months old. Even then I didn't want to do it. I'm a wimp. But they're attached via a very thin strip of skin and everyone had me terrified that they were going to get caught on something and ripped off. Second kid's were removed at 5 months old. She only had it on one hand. Third kid had hers removed right before starting Kindergarten. I would just forget they were there. They were normal to me. It wasn't until someone, usually another kid, saw them and stared or asked questions. We gave her the choice to have it done and she waffled back and forth. She didn't mind them at all and wasn't the least bit embarrassed. We did talk about potential injury on the playground and stuff so she went ahead and wanted them removed. I really don't know where my line is when it comes to stuff like that. Lifesaving is an absolute, of course. Quality of life is pretty much a given as well. Strictly cosmetic? Whether it's done at all or not wouldn't be at my urging, regardless of what it is. |

My daughter's are like that. She hated them from about 11-15 years old. Now she says she likes them,they are part of her, and wouldn't change if it was free. She's almost 21 now.
