Try to move your feet smoothly while in the weaver stance.

Depending on the circumstances, I use either.
But usually I use a modified Weaver.

Shot weaver for years because that's how I learned in the mid 80's. Even had my finger on the front of the trigger guard too.

Dropped the trigger guard finger about 10 years ago.

Recently switched to icosceles after studying the mechanics of it and dedicating myself to it for a month of only shooting that way. Makes much more sense and my splits became faster.

I grew up with Weaver.  I was initially trained with Weaver.  I know Isosceles is superior for a myriad of reasons, but I just can't get into it.  When I do try it, once I start shooting fast or moving, I always instinctively go back to the Weaver.

I've always naturally shot weaver.  I'm trying to switch to isosceles.  I think it's better especially for tactical stuff/moving around.

Weaver has probably put more people in the ground to date.  That will eventually change.

I find the opposite for me.  The only time I like Iso is when wearing body armor/IBA.  Other than that, fuck Iso.

Isoscoweaver. Weaver feels natural to me but I keep trying to get myself to shoot isosceles so, I usually wind up half assing it with my foot back a bit but my shoulders square.

I was indoctrinated (trained) on the Modified Weaver back in 1988 and although apparently no police training academies teach it anymore, I prefer it and will not switch.  Just works great for me.

And at one point the bulls-eye stance put more people in the ground than Weaver.

Pretty obvious which guys in this thread actually shoot on the move, have taken tactical shooting courses, or shoot competitively for accuracy and time.
To all you Weaver stance shooters...please, please, please consider switching over to the isosceles stance.  Especially if you use a handgun for self defense.
Virtually no one teaches the Weaver stance anymore...for very good reasons.

Unfortunately the name's not nearly as accurate as I'd like...I always felt the "need for speed".

Some of us were trained that way and having been shooting that way for many years.  Imagine if 20 years from now there is some new fangled stance that goes against Isosceles.  You may see things differently then.

That'd be ok with me.  I'd try it.

Old enough to to not care what you think of how I express an opinion.

But back to topic, in truth I don't do a lot of stationary shooting because I shoot mostly IPSec/3GN I don't notice but I'm pretty sure I shoot iso

I really don't shoot "pure" Weaver unless I'm shooting bulls-eye, I shoot mostly modified Weaver because it's the most accurate way for me when I'm on the move.
I do use Isosceles when I feel the occasion calls for it but I don't shoot as accurately with the Isosceles stance.

Weaver feels right, but don't listen to me.  I have a perfectly good AR15 but I use a shotgun with buckshot for home defense.

I shoot isos for handgun, and also practice it for rifle and shotgun too due to military training in body armor.  But have also used weaver for all 3 due to that is used at Front Sight with their reasoning being you can use one stance for all types of firearms.  They do have a point, especially for those that aren't able to put in thousands of rounds for practice.

Any thoughts on which to use for long guns?
