Very well could be, the only weather condition I hate more than snow is Lake Effect Snow.

A friend of mine in college was from Mechanicsburg, I went down to his parents' place a couple of times and generally liked it there. Harrisburg...not so much.

Make sure you get some Seltzer's Lebanon Bologna while you're up here, slap it between a couple slices of potato bread and put some Inglehoffer's Sweet Hot mustard on it and you have a flavor fiesta.

Gotta give the Pennsylvania guys some props. During the whole confederate flag flare up, the media was very careful to NEVER mention that a lot of blacks in the south fly the battle flag. Not an uncommon sight in lower al, ga, and fl panhandle.

Driving down 83, I just stopped at a Wal-Mart to piss. Black dude with a big ole battle flag on a poll set in the bed of his truck and wearing a battle flag hat.

That dude has got to be exploding Yankee heads wherever he goes.

That's another reason if you're not from the area maps and a good GPS are quite important; nothing in the Pittsburgh area runs simply north, east, south, and west.  Everything is winding around a river, a hill, a valley, a cliff, or all of the above.  I do far better with a point of reference on a hill than following other means and find flat land hard to navigate which seems really odd.

Ya. It's taken me months and a GPS to get used to it. I literally drive through one hood and the middle of no where twice just to get to work and back.

As I understand it you can go to nearly any Police Department and have THEM do the NICS check.

You want to buy, they want to sell; go to the nearest Po-Po and for the required fee they should be able to do it.  I've seen it done once.

Okay that was very cool.

I'd be tempted to do something like that except for the fact that I don't have a drone...and even if I did someone around here would most likely shoot it down. No I take that back, scratch the "most likely" part, someone would definitely shoot it down.

That's over by Pottsville isn't it? Some pretty nice scenery out that way.

Frackville Mall to Not Quite St. Clair.

I remember the days Before that Mall was built.
I also remember the railroad bridge that went over Route 61 before St. Clair came into sight.

We used to go down to Lancaster County 2-3 times a year when I was a kid in the '80s and I don't think they even had Chinese restaurants in Lititz then. I haven't been there in a few years, but even as an adult I don't think I've ever been down in that area and said,"screw all the other great food around here, I really want me some hunan beef" either.

ETA: Besides, I'm half-Scottish and my great-grandma who was born in Glasgow used to cook Scottish food for family dinners every weekend, so there isn't much "you cooked what?!?" in me anyhow.

Pottsville is a bit further on down the road.

I've been doing some thinking:

A few years ago Somebody got themselves a R/C F16 and put a camera inside its cockpit.  I do believe it would be interesting to take such an aircraft and fly it from the Frackville Mall to Shenandoah and Pottsville - separate flights of course - if the plane can receive the signals from the distances.

Yeah but seeing as how Pottsville is roughly 3 hours from where I am, it being a little down the road puts it "by Pottsville" from my frame of reference.

I haven't been over that way for a couple of years, but I always thought the area around there had some great scenery.

I agree, a video of an F-16 making a run around there would be pretty damn cool if one could do  it.

red up the cowch Washington near Pittsburgh

1. Washington

Population: 13,720

Gun stores per capita: 2nd in PA

Waffle House rank: 33rd in Pennsylvania

High school graduation rate: 77%

Walmart rank: 36th

Dern tootin’, Washington! You have the official bragging rights as being named the most redneck city in the entire state of PA. You may now brag to your friends and share this endlessly on your Facebook walls.

Lets see why. The Washington area has the 2nd most places you can buy guns in the entire state. There’s nothing rednecks like to do more than shoot things and blow stuff up. Except mudding.

You’ve got two Waffle Houses here, and a Walmart, of course. Every redneck town has to have a Walmart, right? Where else are you gonna get your cheap bait while the wifey picks out an outfit for the big barbecue?

There’s also a Field & Stream superstore and a Gander Mountain, for those classier rednecks with paychecks.

Washington has a population that’s 81% white, and very blue collar. More than 20% of the folks here didn’t graduate high school. They were most likely too busy with other more important matters.

Like mudding.

Lancaster, Warren and Lewistown are downright cosmopolitan and filled with dazzling urbanites compared to about 20 towns I could rattle off the top of my head around here.

They must have looked at spreadsheets to do this instead of actually visiting anywhere
that's really rural in the state. I can guarantee they never got into a good brawl at the Pantall Hotel or The Well, had a venison burger at the Hallton Hilton, wings at The Hitchin' Post or Dewdrop Inn, wheeled a keg in to watch the strippers at the Rhododendron, or gazed in wonder at paint-scheme on the outside of The Camouflage Inn which is the very definition of "truth in advertising."

Yeah and their population cutoffs are for shit too, they're going up to 60,000 which includes everything except the biggest 7 or 8 cities in the state. While the floor for them is 2,500 which is bigger than any town in the county I live in except for two.

Nice to see another person from Washington County!

Washington isn't so much full of rednecks, however, it is full of meth and heroin.

well, it's at least entertaining click bait...

After analyzing 258 of the state’s most populous cities (over 5,000 people), we came up with this list as the 10 worst places to live in the state of Pennsylvania:

  1. New Castle

  2. Nanticoke

  3. Johnstown

  4. Wilkes-Barre

  5. Shenandoah

  6. Corry

  7. Hazleton

  8. Dickson City

  9. Tamaqua

  10. Chester

I'm headng to Johnstown today

I grew up there and know that area well.

There used to be a large drag line operating in various locations along the Burma Road in the 60/70s.

I don't recall the Frackville Mall ever being fully occupied in those years.
