A Pennsylvania judge was sentenced to 28 years in prison in connection to a bribery scandal that roiled the state's juvenile justice system. Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella Jr. was convicted of taking $1 million in bribes from developers of juvenile detention centers. The judge then presided over cases that would send juveniles to those same centers. The case came to be known as "kids-for-cash."

The AP adds:

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court tossed about 4,000 convictions issued by Ciavarella between 2003 and 2008, saying he violated the constitutional rights of the juveniles, including the right to legal counsel and the right to intelligently enter a plea.

Ciavarella, 61, was tried and convicted of racketeering charges earlier this year. His attorneys had asked for a "reasonable" sentence in court papers, saying, in effect, that he's already been punished enough.

"The media attention to this matter has exceeded coverage given to many and almost all capital murders, and despite protestation, he will forever be unjustly branded as the 'Kids for Cash' judge," their sentencing memo said.

In a just system, betrayal of the public trust of that nature would be a capital offense.

He's a smart, wealthy white dude. He won't have a misplaced hair. His first year or two might be a bit rough, but he'll die untouched, as long as he has money.

Fuck that guy. After what he did, he should have just saved everyone the trouble and taken a bath with a razor blade. I can't think of very many ways you could more thoroughly abuse a position of power.

There was a high school wrestler who committed suicide after he was harshly sentenced by the POS judge for a minor offense.  The boy's mother confronted the judge outside of a courthouse, some of the confrontation was caught on video.  I hope that judge is haunted by her words for the rest of his life.

I'd hope after the civil suits and fines he'll have to trade blow jobs for chewing gum.

His pension alone is enough to be the richest dude in lockup.

While I'm sure that shitstain has means and won't want for soups, the money in his account won't be coming from his PA pension.  He was denied his defined benefits pursuant to the PFA and his contributions are going toward restitution.

I hope he houses with many of those he sentenced.

I like that idea.

If the judge made $1 million, he probably bought his home and cars with a part of that money, wouldn't the RICO law apply?

His estate will be sued into oblivion, and the taxpayers will go broke, but the DA's are quick to use the RICO law/statute against others.
