Neil Young for me.  And Wings. Fleetwood Mac, too.  We used to listen to it in the car on the way down to visit my Aunt and Uncle in the summer.  Mid to late 70's.

BTW, we were in a '74 Ford LTD station wagon.  Woodie.  Running around in the back, no car seats, boosters, or seat belts.

How did we survive?

This is a '72.  Close enough.  You get the idea.

We listened to whatever Mom & Dad had tuned in the radio.  Unless of course I was alone and had my pocket transistor AM radio with me.  Then I usually had some scratchy sounding rock and roll station playing.

My old man had a record collection of cheesey records he had bought long before I was born. We lived out in BFE so access to other music and TV  was pretty limited.

I was an elementary school kid who thought Roger Miller and Johnny Horton were the cat's ass.  Deep Purple was in there too.

Excellent choices. Like the man said "We got both kinds - country and western"

Throw in some old Ink Spots, Bing Crosby and Chopin and you've got the sound track of early childhood.

I grew up in the late 70's and 80's but I was raised on the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Buddy Holly, Willy Nelson, Hank jr. A few days ago I heard American Pie by Don McLean on the Radio and I went right back to being 8 years old riding shotgun in my ol' mans 1978 IH Scout.
I heard Set em up Joe by Vern Gosdin not long ago and it immediately put me back in my pawpaws living room listening to old 78's.

I was 10 in 1972 in Florida.

Elton John was just getting going good, he released "Honky Chateau" in '72.  When was the last time you heard this one?

Even though they'd broken up in '70, The Beatles were still huge.

Led Zeppelin released their fourth album in '71 with "Stairway to Heaven."

Neil Young released "Harvest" in '72.

Eric Clapton released "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs."

Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, America, Argent.

Some damned good music came out of the 70's.

Mom likes country, so that's all that was on in the car, so I recall lots of Garth, Reba, Brooks and Dunn, etc.

Dad likes rock, and some of my fondest memories are of laying on the living room floor falling asleep with a pair of old Sony cans plugged into a Kenwood amplifier that was hooked to a Kenwood CD player (later a Pioneer five disc changer) listening to DOSTM, Hotel California, or The Long Run. My mind was fucking BLOWN at how awesome music could be. Can't ever repay pops for showing me a love of music that I'm passing to my children.

Dad had that exact '74 Ltd wagon with the 460cid and the 4 barrel carb. It had 270,000 miles on it when I entered it in the demolition derby when I was 17. Drove it back to the shop afterwards. :-)
