http://m.wyff4.com/news/deputy-coroner-injured-after-gun-fires-in-holster-coroner-says/36744090

Shore said Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman suffered an injury after his gun went off in his holster during a morning training scenario.

Boseman was taken to the hospital where he was treated at AnMed Health after the bullet of a 40-caliber Glock grazed his right thigh, according to Shore. The injury required a few stitches, and Boseman was using crutches to get around, Shore said.

Because of the accident, Boseman did not get recertified, and will not be able to carry a handgun until he goes through required a gun safety training program, Shore said.

“Charlie doesn’t like to carry a gun,” Shore said. “But it’s the policy of the Coroner’s Office for all employees to be certified to carry one, because of the people and places they encounter, especially at night

Bullshit, unless some piece of clothing got in the holster and set off the trigger or it wasn't a rigid holster.

He doesn't like to carry a gun = he's not comfortable with guns = he rarely does anything besides leave it in his holster.

I bet it's never been cleaned.  And I bet he was re-holstering it when it "went off" likely due to having a finger in the trigger guard.

Sound like its county policy and probably in the county mou.

If he didn't want to carry a gun he should look elsewhere for some other kind of work.

is a grip safety or manual safety too hard to implement?

Derp at the misleading title. If the glock had gone off it would have filled his leg and hip with shrapnel.

If only there was some kind of manual safety switch that could prevent this, or maybe some kind of safety device released only by a firm grip on the weapon.

Legit - as long as you don't get shot in the hand.

Which happens often.

That would work really well when he's re-holstering and his jacket catches the trigger.

Proper training is the answer.

Noticed that, too. Technically they got it right as they said ".40 caliber".

10mm is .40 caliber.

When people do stupid things, they often refuse to take responsibility for their actions.  They say that they "think" something else happened to cause the event.  I wouldn't take Charlie's opinion as fact.

It's not like he said "it just went off by itself!" He said he thinks the trigger got held up on his jacket. I agree with you that just because he said something doesn't make it true, but finger on the trigger vs. clothing in the trigger guard still makes it his fault, and both are common enough that if he thinks that's what happened, that's good enough for me. None of us were there to see it happen.

Not newsworthy though...

We are forbidden to wear jackets with a bungee cord toggle on the waistband to the range.   Someone was able to holster their gun with the toggle inside the trigger guard.  When they pulled on the bungee after holstering, the gun fired.    Yes, it was a Glock
