NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee lawmakers have designated a sniper
rifle made in their state and used by militaries around the world as the
official state rifle.

View Quote

The .50-caliber Barrett sniper rifle takes its place alongside other
state symbols like the tomato as Tennessee’s official fruit, the cave
salamander as the state amphibian and the square dance as the state folk
dance.

The state Senate voted 27-1 Wednesday to pass the resolution after earlier House approval.

I need to move my ass to that state

Saw this on the news a few weeks ago. Seeing a big M82 on the headlines made me do a double take.

How are they banned? It's a semi auto 10rd rifle with a fixed stock. Can't you have AR's that take 10rd mags?

I went hunting one morning back in December and between 8 am and 1 pm heard over 1000 gun shots. I was not even that far out in the country. Probably averaged about a shot every 3 seconds. No gun ranges around. Shots. From all directions and distances. Just lots of good Tennesseans shootin stuff.

I tried like hell a few years ago to talk Barret into doing a collaboration with Guncrafter Industries.

A kitted-out M82 and a .50GI 1911, with matching serial numbers in a special edition Pelican case.

I have a distant family member that works at Barrett in the "deburr" part of the assembly line.

I asked him how often he gets to shoot them, thinking workers might get heavily discounted range time or something. He gave me a funny look and said he's never even held one before.

That's just wrong!

How could you not at least want to hold what you just helped to make.

This makes me feel good to be a 'Barrett'.

Unfortunately, no relation to Ronnie.

But maybe he could adopt me.

Oh I'm sure he would want to; it's probably that the paid-per-hour type workers on an assembly line aren't allowed to.

And unlike another state that starts with a T, who I won't name, we don't spend all of our time trying to convince everyone we are awesome. We just are.

The caliber itself? I've never heard of a caliber being banned. That's 50 shades of WTF.

Yep, the caliber itself is banned.  However, one can tell the vote buying cocksuckers to go fuck themselves, and get a Barrett in 416 Barrett (which is PRK legal).

Haven't you heard? You could shoot through the aluminum skin of an airplane with that rifle! Barrett refused to send some LAPD Barrett back to them after they banned them IIRC.

The only one I've fired is owned by a guy in Missouri.

However, I did fire it in Tennessee (at the last Camden MG shoot).

Yup, pretty sure that makes us the only state to have banned bolt action rifles because of it.

Which model?

They make five different .50 BMGs.

I'll be sending a thank you to Nashville.

I thought the cherry-stocked flintlock muzzle-loader was already the Tennessee rifle.

No, but like the Bald Eagle, you're not allowed to kill the owner of one.

This has the hint of money influencing a vote.  I would've preferred Davy Crockett's "Ole Betsy" as that would've been a bit more "pure" but the Barrett is ok I guess.
