Any reason why I shouldn't buy one to replace my Eotech?

Price is no big deal I'm capable of saving... so other than that?

Yep I'd go with a 1-? variable of your choice.  ACOG's are awesome but a little limited with the fixed magnification.

I had an extra AR a couple years ago, I had put an EOTech sight on it - shot it maybe once or twice.  Then an eligible buyer asked if I would part with one of my ARs, so I sold him that one - and kept my Colt with the ACOG.

I never saw the utility of the EOTech, I could always nail the target with the ACOG - but only get close with the EOTech.

I still have the EOTech receipt.

With a bit of practice and both eyes open you can switch between magnified and unmagnified. And when you are moving or if you're really close your brain does it automatically because the magnified image is so messed up.

Owned ACOG, then ditched it for variables. More useful.

What is the role of the rifle?

For cqc I'd go with an aimpoint to replace the eotech.

If you want some magnification then I'd give the acog a good look. I have one of the 4x ones on a 20inch ar-15 and have been very happy with it. I have a 14.5 inch sbr pending that is going to get one as well. They are a little pricy but the one I've had I've been very happy with.

My rifle is used 90% of the time on my trips to the mountains. I like to drive out in the middle of nowhere and shoot. My rifle has fallen off the atv before... That's when I figured it was time to get rid of my budget crap. Got an Eotech and now we know where that got me. I don't really need it for inside about 50 yards.

i had one. i was sitting on the hill on my street, reading a clock tower 8 miles away in downtown boston. it was incredible. with that being said, it felt like it weighed as much as a basic AR did by itself.

I have a Mark6 1-6 and like it a lot for hunting and ranges past 500m, but I am not nearly as fast with it even on 1x as with a TA33.

TA33 is the bestest general purpose optic for AR.

RA speaks the truth. My TA33G-H is the best optic I own, hands down.

If that is the case then an acog might be a good option. That or any other low power optic.

I almost bought a TA-33 last summer!

Only reason to get an acog is if you needs a small 3x optic under 7oz, and the only ACOG to get is the TA-50. you can get it with the Rusted Ace approved green horse shoe too. I had experience with the old TA-50, and I never got into the 33 because the old 50 was better. The TA-50 they sell now is a improved design.

I'd take a TA-50 over most 1-4 scopes on the market for use on an all purpose carbine.

Two of the best carbine optics ever in my book is the TA-50 and the nightforce 2.5-10x24.. They were both nixed because no one saw the light. Now the TA-50 is back, and the 33 is basically just a bigger 50 with less field of view. Now If only nightforce will start making the 2.5-10x24 again. Its time has come again.

I also like the TA-11 with red chevron, but that is because it is the best ACOG. Not necessarily the best carbine optic tho.

I actually love the small field of view, it allows me to be almost as fast with it as a red dot as I dont get as sucked in/ lost shooting both eyes open with it.

I dont normally scan looking through scopes on a gun I am walking around with, I pick up something I might want to shoot with the naked eye, then aim in and take a closer look with scope.

Interesting point of view...

To be completely honest the only time I actually got to look through a 33 I was looking across a parking lot that was only about 30 yards wide.

Not the best place to get my impressions of an optic.

First big optic purchase was a TA45, now im saving for a TA33. Worth it, I freekin love these things.

I had the 4x32 TA01 with the JP reticle.  Tried using it for 3-Gun.  Great optic for a DMR.  Slow as hell on anything up close or even midrange.

I'm changing everything to 1-x variables with lit reticles.

For anything close/fast, you gotta have something non-magnified even if it is irons.

In my opinion, ACOGs are great for situations where you need to remove your optic and beat someone to death with it without losing zero on returning it to the rifle.

Otherwise, get a 1-4/1-6 variable.
