I met Frank Castle when we were in Sang Bang and later in Dang Gong. I was in the Specialist Tactics Unit Battalion and Frank was with the Commando Airborne Tactics guys.   Good guy, his unit loved him.  Big practical joker, Frank.  I remember he visited me in the hospital after I stepped on that landmine.  He brought me a basket of prunes and a card that said, "It's important to trust in God but it's a hell of a lot better to be regular."

Truly.

But beyond that, back to the OP intent, it is amazing that so many people have lionized him to the extent that they, with tributes painted on their trucks, decals, etc etc etc.  I mean, FFS we have many MOH winners from the same conflicts who sacrificed immensely performing unthinkable acts of heroism and the same brodozer pilots have no idea what any of their names are.

The book is a good read..

The aftermath of his death has been fucky
I thought it was mostly a bad book with a few good parts. The chapters with his wife were terrible and the frat boy antics of state side SEALS were tedious. Once he got over seas the stories he told about that were good.   I kind of like "his" (doubt he really wrote much of it) guns book. Very basic book and some factual inaccuracies but a fun read

I agree with your assessment.  American Sniper is not a very good book.

Oh, and just to add, the movie really was pretty shitty as well.  Sorry all.

I said the same thing after getting to watch it at a pre-screen. I've never been attacked that hard before.  And a bunch of the butthurt faggots that were crying hadn't even seen the fucking movie.

Here's a multi-million dollar idea for one of our more entrepreneurial members:

Are you ready for it?

Here it is:

Tier 1 Trading Cards.  They're like basball cards or Pokemon cards but they feature various members of SOF.  The front has a picture of them looking all cool and operatory.  The back is full of stats like when they went through BUDS or SFAS or Ranger School.  It will have how many confirmed kills they have.  What their favorite weapon is.  How many deployments they have and where.  You can sell them at gun shows and Arfcom conventions.  There will also be a game that goes along with it.  Maybe something like Candyland but with more guns.  Instead of sliding down candy canes the characters fall down mountains.  You collect the cards.  All of your friends come over and play the game in your mom's basement.  Everybody can dress like their favorite operator.  You eat pizza, play the game, trade cards.

Why not? I'm not trying to argue or disagree, just genuinely curious. I started the book, couldn't stand the poor writing style, didn't finish it. Watched the movie with high hopes, was disappointed. That said, the man was still a hero and died trying to help someone. He certainly has my respect.

I like the idea of having the name of one of our nation defenders who was very good at shooting jihadists in the face being engraved on .22 rifles at Walmart. It makes far better sense than Dale Earnhardt .22 rifles now doesn't it?
