https://www.yahoo.com/news/fly-f-16n-viper-topgun-163000300.html In the late 1980s, F-14 Tomcat pilot and Topgun instructor Paul Nickell found himself strapping into the cockpit of a brand new Navy jet that would never land on an aircraft carrier. Instead, it was built specifically to challenge the skills of the best fighter crews the Navy had to offer. It was a stripped down, up-engined, exotically painted variant of the already nimble F-16. General Dynamics built only 26 of them, and the fleet served less than a decade before being controversially retired, but the impression the jet made was legendary. Read the article!! |

My JROTC instructor in high school was the CO of VF-43, one of the Navy F-16 squadrons. I think they were based out of Key West.
That was a good read. |

I saw that plane at NAS Jax/Cecil Field when my company was doing work there long ago.
We had flight line clearance and was told by mechanics it was the "adversary" plane for the F-18's flying out of Cecil Field. Powder Blue with puffy clouds and the soviet star on the tail...... |

Good Stuff.
It seems that the only thing better than being a Top Gun student, is being a Top Gun Instructor. If those are the 'official' stories, I can only imagine what the stories involving a case of beer must be like!!!!  |

It looked nice, like nicer than a regular F16.
One of my favorite things to see and do in fiction is to have characters sit around thinking. "Okay how do we make this awesome thing awesomer?" |
