I figured all the whining on this forum about modern country music was just from a bunch of guys that used to listen to George Jones and Charlie Pride and don't like anything new.

I humbly apologize.

This shit stinks.  It's so over produced that I don't know if I'm listening to Lady Gaga or her equivalent with a big hat.  The guys either try to rap or just badly sing the worst clichés ever with a twang in their voice but music that isn't even remotely 'country'.  Sometimes a little steel guitar.

I will now concur that modern country music is really, really terrible.

Yes it does. The vast majority of the producers, song writers, and sound peoplez are crossing over between pop, rap, and country. Hence the reason for the crossover of shitty music. Rarely do i find a new country song i actually like.

As may have been understated, I'm not a country fan anyway so I just assumed it was fans that were unhappy with the latest stuff.

I don't think you have to be a fan of older country to appreciate how bad new country is, it surprised me how bad it is.  When I was in high school I listened to a little Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Barf Grooks and the other popular stuff, but I haven't really heard much for the last 15 years or so.  I graduated in '93.

I guess you could say that new country is bad independent of old country.  Regardless of if you were a fan of country 20 years ago or not, the new stuff is really, really bad.

That surprised me.

I was hearing it at a restaurant, not on the radio.  I was a captive audience.  I would not willingly play that stuff on my radio.  In fact I can't remember the last time I listened to the radio, thank you Pandora....

Its fucking terrible. It really truly is the worst music ever made. As a southerner I am ashamed that it is attributed to my people. Other southerners should feel bad and stop listening to that degrading garbage.

I'm about your age, and I liked 90s country music too.  I honestly don't know when it started trending toward the crap you hear on pop country radio today.

Fortunately, I'm back in a place where I get to work with good country artists from time to time.  I really like Hayes Carl.  I've also gotten to do shows with Reckless Kelly, Charlie Robinson, and some other bands that can be fun.

Country music is obsessed with fornication, addiction, obsession, transportation, and fornication.  Most of it is stupid and the rest is pretty hokey.

But at least you can dance to it.  My wife and I go C&W dancing every weekend and have a wonderful time.

But the 'Murica songs, the unimaginative plays on words, the stupid fake country accents, and the bad grammar make you want to slam your head against the wall most of the time.

If I hear about that black dress hitting the floor one more time I'm going to climb onto a locomotive and crush grandma under its clacking wheels.

To be fair, there's a lot of pretty risque stuff in all the genres of music.  "You can leave your hat on" is pretty tame, and also 50 years old now.  My biggest problem with country lyrics, aside from the fake accent you mentioned, is the lack of originality.  Find a cliche, then twelve more, string them together somehow, doesn't matter how, and there's your song.

Ugh.

Been that way for a very long time though.

Shit 1993!! Although Blake Shelton is all about drinking and getting fucked up! And Darius Rucker is now a country singer and oddly the music still sounds like Hootie & the Blowfish. Now I worked with his nephew and Darius sounds like a nice guy yet I never met him.

Waylon was good friends with my grandparents. And he is from a town 30ish miles away from where I grew up. One of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Nicer than Willy probably because he never was as stoned as Willy. Although Willy is also a trip to talk to just don't let him pass the joint to you.
