Seriously, $2-4 or even $5 for a box that doesn't even have a pound of flavored corn, wheat or oats. What I'm guessing are the most plentiful grains in the US.

I'll stick to eggs.

$4 for something you get about what..... 10 servings out of puts it at about .40 per serving.
How is that a bad value?
There's more to the cost than just the product. Packaging, transport.........

Actually, I think that boutique bottled water is the biggest scam.

You are free to make your own.

Grow the grain/corn/rice.
Mill it.
Flavor it.
Process it into flakes.
Package it.

Or you could just buy oatmeal. Which is better for you anyway.

I only buy cereal when it's on sale.  I don't pay more than $2.00-2.50 a box for it.

Cereal sucks anyway.

A proper breakfast is last night's leftovers.  Spaggetti and meatballs, steak and veggies, chinese carryour...all taste better at 5:30.

The bigger problem with cereal is that it's about the worst thing you could possibly eat for breakfast.

I will stick to my bacon and eggs

When you reach your 50's, you begin to view boxed cereal (raisin bran, grape nuts, kashi, ezekiel, etc.. ) as a "medicinal investment" as part of your regimen to keep things... ummm....  regulated.

Exactly.
I know a guy that is in local management at the coke plant. Bottled water is by far their highest profit per investment product. They were already purifying water for their products and bottling it their and that made for a cheap transition, too. It doesn't "expire" either.

My wife goes through cereal like mad to manage her low blood sugars.  I make sure she buys the stuff that I don't like or else I'd eat it all myself.  I eat an apple and two little halos for breakfast every day.

Hmmm, I never noticed that before. I'm gonna start pointing that out to a few people I know.

But, yes, IMO boxed cereal is a rip-off.

If you pay full price for cereal then yes, its not a terribly good deal. I suppose I'll have to give you the same advice I give my children. Look for cereal thats on sale. Compare the price per ounce (Listed in very small print in the lower right on most price tags).

You can find good cereal on sale at prices that often match the generic cheap shit cereal. Which makes it a very good value.

This is a real thing, but every time I say this people think I'm stupid or crazy. And yes most of it is literally city tap water. Seriously, either water is water or it isn't, theirs isn't some super secret water from the Long Lost Frozen Caverns of the Alps that's somehow a different form of H2O.

And there are no standards for bottled water.  A bottler could get it out of the tap and then charge more than you would if you bottled your own.
