I don't have any more information than you do, but when I datalog racecars there is a difference between bad readings from unpowered or broken sensors versus no data. My impression is he was eluding to the fact that no data was present, which is different than null readings being recorded. |

Yeah, if I was going to put in the effort to install a data recorder on a ship that costs (tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars with the same in cargo liability) I'd probably go ahead and give it an internal power supply. But hey why do some silly shit like that, LOL that's just dumb. FWIW the ECM/TCM/BCM on pretty much any late model car has an internal power supply good for 15 minutes or so which is why disconnecting power for 20ish minutes is required to restore factory settings. |
