On the assumption that you're referring to the classic, historically-accurate Monty Python version of the story, I fixed it for you.
On topic: agree with all of the above, plus I dare anyone to do a remake of Das Boot that's even marginally as good as the original. It's unpossible.

"The Sum Of All Fears" SHOULD be remade, true to the plot of the book.

The Godfather
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures
Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom
Sleepless In Seattle
Captain Ron

Remakes that sucked:
The Karate Kid
Total Recall
Arthur
Ghostbusters

Remakes that, if made with a better script, could be better:
Bloodsport
DC Cab
The Last Dragon
Jaws

ETA: yes, Magnificent Seven & The Thing

Meh, it's easier to say: 99.9% of them.

The remake of War of the Worlds was surprising different than the 1950s version & was an acceptable difference.

The Denzel Washington "Man on Fire" was way better than the first one with (I think) Peter Coyote, so they got that one better

The original Man on Fire starred Scott Glenn. The Magnificent Seven actually is a remake. It is a re-make of the Japanese movie "The Seven Samurai." The Thing (John Carpenter) is a re-make of the 1950's "The Thing" which starred Kenneth Tobey and James Arness and was based on the book "Who Goes There?" The movie "I Am Legend" (Will Smith) is the second re-make of the movie "The Omega Man" (Charlton Heston) which was a re-make of the movie "The Last Man on Earth" (Vincent Price) which were all based on the book "I Am Legend." I preferred either of the original two movies over the Will Smith abortion which had way too much cgi which looked cartoonish, especially when the mutants started crawling up the walls and upside down on the ceiling like ants.

I struggle with this one.
I love Jaws and if they could get 3 actors who were good at playing the main charachters plus with cg what it is now I think it would be great. Sadly they would end of picking 3 morons  who can't act and low budget the cg and screw up the whole thing.

No I love the movie. But I think the shark scenes could be so much better with today's cg . That being said I know Hollywood would fuck it up ,hence why I said I struggle with it .

I hear ya but in the end it wasn't really about the shark.  It was about Brody's "coming of age".  Great movie.

Unlike Spider-Man, they need to keep remaking Punisher until someone finally gets it right.

I wonder if it would make any money if they redid the Sharks scenes with CGI and just used the original movie. Like how they put Forrest Gump into all those old news reels.

FPNI.

I'd like to single out a few that remakes of would be an absolute ridiculous travesty, in particular.

The Godfather.
Lawrence of Arabia.
Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Any Kubrick movie.

Again, this ^.

I hate seeing movies remade. Such as Point Break. I hate remakes that are crappy and tailored for millenials!

a few remakes off the top of my head that were better than the original IMO

man on fire
dawn of the dead
true grit(the first one was basically john wayne starring as john wayne in his latest hit, john wayne)

If you know right away that it's a remake of an older film, without being told, then it should not be remade.

The Buccaneer was a 1958 remake of the 1938 black and white version.  The pirate jean Lafitte and the Battle of New Orleans.  Both are very good.

The remake of War of the Worlds was a little better than the original.

Cape Fear remake was as good as the original.

Ocean's Eleven was way better than the original.

Both versions of the Invasion of the Body Snatcher were good,
