I've got 10 year old Dewalt 20v batteries that still work great.  I've got a ton of Dewalt 20v tools....last year I decided to buy their string trimmer.  I've still got my big Stihl trimmer for clearing brush but thought I'd give the Dewalt a shot at doing the light work around the house.....I was pretty amazed that I could trim our entire property with one 4ah battery.

Halfway, anyway.  Need to cut the plywood to size for the shorter region on the left, finish screwing things down, and make the covers for the access holes.  Phase Two will deal with the insulation and cardboard (I kinda wanted floor first).

Serious question about driver versus variable speed drill:
Is it because a driver has more torque and slower speed, giving more control?  Or is there something else?
(I don't want to admit how many #20 torx bits I chewed up.)

It's kind of a dump... so I'm sort of surprised... but I love the place, so I'm happy for them.

Their food is amazing.

And is about the cheapest in the city. Lol.

The Magician's Nephew
C.S. Lewis

Chronologically the first Narnia book, but published sixth.

(You should read them in published order.  The Magician's Nephew has major spoilers for The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.)

Your house was built in the 1950's also?

The cardboard worked for a while, obviously.  And I suppose it lets the house "breathe" to a greater degree than wrapping it in Tyvek.

20's

I think they insulated the house in the 70s and used cardboard to hold the  insulation

Impact drivers are also variable speed.  Typically impacts are lower rpm / higher torque than a drill.....you don't need 3000 rpm to sink a screw  The "impact" part can also help in driving screws into harder material (torque doesn't hurt)
Originally Posted By Brisk:

I try not to but have left them for days at a time in the past....just because I forget about them.  Once they're charged they hold their charge until you use them, I'm sure that technically there is some loss over time when not being used but it's never been enough for me to notice it.  I'm overly invested in Dewalt 20v tools (multiple impacts, drill, hammer drill, jig saw, oscillating saw, reciprocating saw, circular saw, miter saw, angle grinder, leaf blower, string trimmer).....jesus that feels excessive now that I typed it out.  Most of them I bought as tool only because I already had 6-7 batteries.  The tools and batteries got a workout when we built our house, all the batteries still hold a charge good and will run an impact driver for an all day project.  Tools like the leaf blower or angle grinder can eat through a battery faster than the impacts / drills though.

My dad is a general contractor and uses all Dewalt 20v stuff, it gets used and abused on a daily basis.  He has had to replace some batteries due to his heavy use but I think he still averages around 4-5 years of life out of a battery....which is likely a homeowner lifetime.
