Ballad of Dwight Fry

Early version well worth watching in my opinion.  Watch it now if you're interested.  This clip always gets taken down as soon as it pops up.  I have the actual file but have no way to link it for this site.

After the release of Led Zeppelin III on October 5, 1970 the band retired the country estate of Headley Grange.

Led Zeppelin IV was released on November 8, 1971.  The 1972 North American Tour  kicked off in Detroit, MI at Cobo Hall.

Not my stub.

When I was a kid and my Mom moved us closer to Hollywood for her auditions my school was split between Hispanics, blacks and a smaller amount of Asians and Whites so our school dances and cafeteria music would rotate to pander to everyone’s music preferences and this song got played a lot when it was the black student population’s turn

Wow!! There's a lot of music to catch up on!!

For my humble contribution this week, here's a group that when I was a little boy was, at that time, one of the most exciting to listen to. I mentioned before about the band posters all over San Francisco. (They could also be purchased!)  Here's the first song that as I kid I was conscious of belonging to this specific band:

I never heard a song like this before!! I liked it!!
A couple of things you don't know when you're 6-7 years old is the Future and good from bad (the meaning here is in talent and musical ability.)

As musicians at this specific time, not that great skill wise compared to their English counterparts. In Europe and Japan, if you want to "study" music, they have a system that produces results. Here in the US, outside a couple of famous music academies, music is more of an extra-curricular activity. You learn and practice kind of on your own, and your skill level is totally up to you to achieve.

The point here is that like many SF bands at the time, in the beginning of their careers, or sprees for some of them, they weren't that skillful and talented as musicians, but they were enthusiastic! Throw in a drug culture and a sexual revolution, and many of the survivors would turn out to be great musicians and great bands.

This week we're going to do Big Brother and the Holding Company's first release after Janis Joplin announced leaving the band, but was still recording with and playing gigs with them. Next week, we'll cover that specific time period.

I am compelled to say something about the culture and society of 1960s-70s life. As a mere kid, I didn't have the words to express this, but I've thought about it a lot over time. I saw how drugs ripped through my family and taking very few prisoners. Heavy drug use always seemed to go hand-in-hand with obsessive sexual practices that usually led to feeling humilated and disgusted with oneself, and then to feel better, more drugs. Then one day, you simply can't "function" any longer. Sometimes you then get yourself clean; sometimes you take the path of the OD. Stay in School kids; don't do drugs.

Side 2

2  Mr. Natural

Remember the controversies over this one? The youth ministry of my church embraced it. Some of the other churches in town, not so much.
