The clock has started for China. They have to do something drastic and soon. 2027 at the latest. I wouldn't be surprised if China loses 450 million citizens by 2030.

The demographic bomb combined with the Russians getting their noses busted very publicly may end this before it starts.

Unless the Chicoms are more confident in their stuff they stand a real chance of being repulsed from Taiwan if they go for it.

Plus the reports that Xi tend to shoot the bearer of bad news means that if they go it may go badly for them.

No, realistically, not that. However, as the agreement has only been publicized as a "draft," the Biden-Harris Admin could have stated in general terms what they would not tolerate in an agreement between the PRC and the Solomon Islands. That would've been a good step to have accomplished.

Instead they just made some "mooing" sounds out from the pasture that impresses no one.

Time Bandits (1981) - Evil performance

It is a good question.

The publicized draft allows the PRC to more than defend a riot near their Embassy. They would get to quell it. Quell is a very nice sounding word for what it means. To be able to do this, the PRC will need troops and weapons; therefore they'll need troop housing and storage area for equipment. To get the troops there with their equipment, the PRC asked for Port facilities (docks and warehousing for stores) for their ships and for the gov't of the Solomon Islands to allow the PRC to service and refit their ships. They didn't ask for airport facilities which would actually make sense as it's faster to fly troops there from the PRC with their equipment when the "riot," that the gov't of the Solomon Islands can't stop, begins. They could also leave the same way after any action had been taken. Very small foot print in this regard; fast and easy in and fast and easy out.

As it stands now in the draft agreement, for the PRC to be effective in their goal of defending the PRC Embassy of a riot that is at or near by their embassy, they'll need advance notice of when there will be a riot at or near by the PRC Embassy that the gov't of the Solomon Islands will not be able to contain, and thus the gov't of the Solomon Islands will need to request help from the PRC to "quell" the riot.

All of this is in response to a protest that got out of hand like all BLM and Antifa protests do. Plus, it was just as murky as a BLM and Antifa protest. Some may say the PRC itself was responsible in organizing it. Some may say, no, they weren't. That's how murky it is.

So, what should the US do? First, if the US actually sees the PRC as posing a threat to US policies and trade and security, the US will need to start acting like it.

This is too difficult for the Democratic party elites as well  as some Republican elites.

The PRC has "bought" many US politicians and has agents of influence everywhere in all levels of government as well as the corporate World.

And this is the problem. Right now we have people in power who do not want to stop the flow of Chinese money to themselves. So, the only way to stop the flow of Chinese money is to elect people who don't get Chinese money. For the politicians who get Chinese money, they literally fear the politicians who don't get Chinese money. It's pretty simple.

That Trump guy for example. He was once a very popular cultural figure: had cameos in big Hollywood blockbuster films; even had his own TV show for a number of years. Then, one fateful day in February of 2015, he voter registered as a...gasp...Republican and declared his candidacy for President of the US. Magically, the guy turned into literally worse than Hitler.

The vehement hatred was odd because politically, he was just ever so slightly to the right of Hillary Clinton making him a typical "big city" leftest. However, he wasn't on the PRC's payroll, so he had to go!

And he we are. Got suckered into a war over the Ukraine that has started the clock on WWIII, we're watching the PRC out maneuvering us so very slowly and we can't even stop that. But, for the sake of argument, let's say we haven't had PRC money in our Political system ever. That would also mean that Clinton wouldn't have won in 1996, but I think we can live with that.

As with any negotiation between entities, you state want you want and then work on what you're willing to do to get it. The Biden-Harris Admin said it would only respond accordingly. That means absolutely nothing. Why? Because you as an "offending" country are free to prosecute as you see fit until you get a response that you have to deal with. If you have a high threshold of pain like apparently Russia does, you do what you want period.

So, at a minimum, the US should have made it clear what it would tolerate and what it will not tolerate. To be honest, I think that is what most countries want from the US: clarity of its position in any matter.

We fought them in the Solomons for a year to break their offensive and end the threat to Australia.

And now the fucking Solomons accepts a briefcase of cash from Fuck Emperor Xi?

AUKUS alliance failure! Meanwhile NZ fingers their twat? NZ the protector of Oceania?

This is catastrophic. Chinese missiles, radars, sigint, elint, and recon assets in the Solomons would allow them to strike every US and Australian base in the Pacific with theater ballistic missiles instead of ICBMs, including Pearl Harbor, and to attack our carriers with DF-21s outside the 1st island chain (South China Sea) where they might have been safe. It also gives them a forward base for both their attack and missile subs.

ABSOLUTE CATASTROPHE!

And all we had to do was supply a bigger briefcase of cash and send an in person delegate.

Thanks Joe Biden!!!

Now add in some more Biden fuck-uppery while China is getting cozy with Sri Lanka during their current economic/energy crisis, and you have a situation that will give China ports and airfields to control the Indian Ocean.  Add in China's ports and airfields on the east coast of Africa and there is a major shift in who controls the Indian Ocean, meaning control of access to India and western Australia.

And Diego Garcia might need to be renamed Alamo Island, because it will be surrounded and cut off at China's whim.

All of these things happening is why I keep thinking Taiwan is merely a diversion. Why invade when it's just easier to nuke it and forget about it. The real prize is to the South of China. That's where the oil is, and that's where replacement women are if China wants to head off it's population collapse. (There are lots of "overseas Chinese" in those islands.)

Not only did Australia drop the ball and totally screw up, they had over 10 years to fix the relationships with the governments there and rebuild, but no, we didn't do shit except build mines and fuck the local populations over.

The US didn't help and should have been pushing Australia to change its tactics, but now this is all on Scott Morrisons' shoulders and the new government has to try and mend fences, but it's probably too late. Australia has never been good at diplomacy and we have a colonist attitude to our poor neighbors. This is the worst security mistake Australia has made in over 30 years, the Chinese are laughing at us.

The only way out of this is a massive investment by the US, Japan, and Australia to counter the Chinese, and if that doesn't work, bloody coups and "stabilization" efforts will be the option of last resort, and the problem will be if China provides security to these governments that option will be very dangerous.

If Australia was serious about this and China's encroachment, it would stop all iron ore and mineral sales to China, but that's not going to happen.....
