FBM in my area has katanas, but folks are asking more than msrp and won't budge even though they are used. I also read nothing but positive reviews on the Katana 50 and I think my SW rep even recommended that one to me. I ended up sending it back and buying a more expensive tube amp. There was nothing wrong with the Katana, but as a beginner, I want to keep things as simple as possible and the Katana was simply overwhelming for me. My tube amp has a couple of solid state switches that I never use. I just run it straight as a tube amp with a real spring reverb. I've bought probably a half a dozen guitars in the last 18 months but am down to just two, a PRS SE 245 (LP clone) and a Taylor 110e acoustic. I pretty much play the acoustic exclusively since acoustic is where my true interests are, but I'll always have an electric and an amp around, because I know if I sold them, I would periodically find myself wanting them back. I've been playing around with a katana mk2 head for a while. I think you'll like it.
My GAS was in full force 20-25 years ago but guns took over. I love the few (6) guitars I have left though. |

Like my other hobbies, it goes in phases how much money I dump into it.
Last year got a touch expensive (not compared to some though I’m sure) with the following: MIK Epi Les Paul LP-100 (bought in 2021 but sold it last year like a dumbass) Schecter Omen Elite-6 FR (sold for the hardtail) Schecter Omen Elite-6 (Hardtail) Boss Katana 50W (sold) Boss Katana MkII 100W Head Harley Benton 2x12 w/ V30s Epi Les Paul Modern in Graphite Black But now I’m thinking I need a Strat, definitely gotta be all black cause David Gilmour. And then maybe something with a Floyd Rose again, I’d love to get my hands on a Dean ML with taking out another mortgage. I think once i have those two, I’ll move onto collecting amps. I need to get my shit together and save up for a Mesa Mark IV or V. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Never had GAS for guitars but I did go down the multi effects unit, Boutique pedals and amp rabbit hole at least with the wait lists for boutique stuff I never lost money on gear and always got more money for the stuff than I originally paid.
I am still trying to track down a custom lunch box head I had built that I did my own tolex on back in 2011 |

I never even learned to play the steel but I got em. So this is a syndrome huh? |

Ignore the dust and shitty photos, this is my main guitar. It's an Ibanez RG572FX. It started life as the first pic. I have since done the following:
1) Black Winter pickups. I had an X2N7 in the bridge and that was a good pickup too. Too lazy to switch back and forth to try the difference. Both Black Winters and X2N's are extremely HOT! 2) I had a custom clear pickguard made for a 7 string fixed bridge. 3) I drilled out the old inlays and added faded green dot markers with ilumilays for side dots. I always loved the Ibanez Universe's and this was my homage to the green dot. 4) No tone knob because it hits the pick hand and fuck tone knobs. 5) Refretted with stainless frets. It needed it after ~10 years playing. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

But having had 4 Tom Andersons, a Suhr, an EBMM Morse and Petrucci, and an American Schecter... the Friedman is at least as good as any of those. It practically plays itself. Even my Anderson-addict buddy thought about keeping it for himself (he runs the LGS where I bought it). |
