RSP -- Invesco S&P 500® Equal Weight ETF

0.2% expense ratio

Compare that to Vanguard's VOO ETF, which is market-cap weighted, and a 0.03% expense ratio.

Average yearly returns are about 10% for RSP, and about 12% for VOO, for the past decade.

AAPL is like 35-40% of my overall portfolio. And that’s not counting the tax deferred stuff.  Just taxable.  Ain’t scared. Ain’t selling.

Rockstars will dominate the overall value, keep riding them. They’re what got you hear. One of my biggest mistakes was selling a good chunk of aapl because “you shouldn’t have that much exposure to single stock”. I wouldn’t be working now if I hadn’t done that.

I will tell you what I’m NOT doing which is chasing after 7 overpriced tech companies that are responsible for over 2/3 of this latest rally all by themselves.  What could go wrong?

"I'm not going to invest in the world's most profitable companies, they could go bankrupt at any moment!"

Apple just released earnings yesterday. They had revenues of $120-billion, and profit of $34-billion over that quarter, or roughly $377-million in profit per day, every day, for the entire quarter.

"Yeah I'm totally not going to invest in Apple, they sound overpriced"

edit:
META announced earnings today.  $14-billion in profit last quarter, so $155-million in profit, every day of the quarter. And they have $65-billion in "cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities on hand" But nah they're gonna go bankrupt tomorrow according to the Chicken Littles here. They have 2.11 billion daily active users.

If AAPL is so great, why is it down on the day and still unable to get over $200 per share.  It has been flirting with it for well over 6 months.

I think back, and doom has always been the thing ever since I started paying attention. It was get under desks cause the flash. Then Saddam, then OG grab them interns by the pussy and dildo cigars. Then muh Balkans. Then Ted turner lost more money than some counties had. Then then then and on and on into infinity. People live people die. There's always an opportunity somewhere on this rock.

Doom is always here. But growth is forever, even on the bad days, shit just went on sale is all.

Meta someday will die too. Oh well. Something else will be there to fill the void.

That's one of the things I don't believe a lot of people understand.

Owning Apple or Microsoft stock is like owning an ETF in and of itself. Yes, they might be "one company", but they have their hands in a lot of different industries.

For sure. Wait until Skynet and all the flavors of AI land. Whole new business. It's gonna be amazing.

I guess that’s why I’m so vocal in investing threads. I’ve made mistakes. Big ones. I want others to learn from my mistakes.

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/us-stock-market-outlook-tech-ai-bubble-dotcom-crash-economy-2024-2
The stock market just did something for the first time since 1987. On Friday — when the Nasdaq popped, the S&P 500 closed at a record high, and the rally forged onward — there were more than twice as many stocks in the red as those that enjoyed gains.

That last happened 36 years ago, on October 20, 1987, the day after Black Monday, David Rosenberg, a top economist, said.

On Friday, "only half the sectors were up in the ripping session, and we had to do a 'double take' after seeing that the A-D line was negative on Friday, even in the face of the +1.1% rise in the S&P 500," he wrote in a note on Monday.

"This is not ideal," Rosenberg added.

n fact, stocks are so overvalued that, for the price they are paying, investors are getting weaker returns in stocks than in three-month Treasury bills. The forward price-to-earnings multiple breached 20 times for the Nasdaq, which means those equities yield a 5% return, compared with the 5.39% return on the three-month US note.

That's not normal — stocks are riskier assets than bonds, and they usually have a much-higher premium because of that risk.

And while investors are praying for the proverbial soft landing, Rosenberg said that stocks were not so overvalued the last time the Fed relaxed the brakes on the economy, under Chair Alan Greenspan in the '90s.

"Back then, it was the advent of the Internet that saved the day, and this time, ostensibly, it is all the chip spending around the generative AI craze," he said. "Just remember that we went into that last leg of the bull market with a forward P/E of 15x, not 20x."

CPI Inflation Data Jolts The S&P 500, Fed Rate-Cut Odds

Consumer price index data for January showed that core inflation ran hotter than expected, with services prices rising at the fastest pace since September 2022. After the CPI inflation data, the S&P 500 opened sharply lower in Tuesday stock market action. Markets came close to pricing away one quarter-point Federal Reserve rate cut after the data.

The overall consumer price index rose 0.3% on the month, above expectations of a 0.2% rise. The 12-month CPI inflation rate eased to 3.1% from 3.4% in December, exceeding 3% forecasts.

The core CPI, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, rose 0.4% vs. December levels, above 0.3% estimates. The annual core CPI inflation rate unexpectedly held at 3.9%, above forecasts of 3.7%. The core CPI inflation rate peaked at a 40-year-high 6.6% in September 2022.

Core goods prices fell 0.3% on the month, which was the biggest drop since July, but core services prices rose 0.7%.

Part of that was housing, with shelter costs up 0.6%, including a 2.4% jump in motel and hotel rates. Meanwhile, transportation services prices climbed 1%. Prices for food away from home rose 0.5%, the biggest rise since May. Prices for inpatient and outpatient hospital services jumped 1.8%, the biggest monthly rise since October 2015.
