At the end of 2018 I took a desk job with a parking spot 50' from my chair. I got lazy. For five years I've lost all my gains and have become a liability. My whole life I valued fitness, and lately, Ive been off the rails. Time to get back to business and stop being weak.

When I first saw this thread I told myself, start easy and go slow....its been a while. I licked on the '100' per week commitment. Right now, I plan to do that today.

My first set today was 20 and it was harder than Id like....frankly...embarrassing. Then I did a set of 30. Better, but not where i want to be.  I wont set a hard goal yet, but I think this is the start of something good.

I'm about to take a desk job as well, but there will be some foot traffic opportunities and I can also get membership to a gym with climbing facilities, running, basketball, etc.

I'm looking forward to it.

When I started doing pushups again at the end of 2020, I could only muster out 20-30 as well, and for several weeks into 2021, I found myself happy to simply make it to 100-150/day.

On 04DEC2021, I did 1000 pushups to complete 60,000.  That was the 2nd time that year that I'd done 1000 in a single day.

Throughout that year, I had pushed myself to gain a certain amount each month, and somewhere in July or August, I was doing 2500/wk.

I am willing to bet, that by this year's end, you're going to be able to do a set of 100 without much effort.

Way to go macro

I do suspension pushups in my AMRAP workout; as well as Shoulder Taps. This adds a lot of ab work to my push-ups and push-up like exercises.

Heh, didn't even see this thread but just knocked out 40. Plan to get to 100 a day again, and start back to strength/cardio soon as well. But push ups start today

Day 1 - May As Well - Hopefully I Stay the Course

I am in good shape, but this should be a fun addition.  A chart is in the fridge and I at least got two young children in board with their own goals.

I want at least 25,000 push-ups this year.  Essentially, 100 per day for five days a week.  It should be easy.

Jan. 1 - 200
Total - 200

I think I'm finishing out today's reps at 1530 and 1540.

I might elect to do a few more this evening to get a jump on tomorrow.

1530.  50 reps in 0:37.
1540.  50 reps in 0:37.

That's 500 done on Day 1.

I'll commit to 100 per week. I do strength training 3 days a week and run 4 days per week.  Trying to get a minimum of 1000 miles running this year.

I got in 75 today.  Would have done more but i went on a 4 mile walk and that finished me off for the afternoon. Will be doing pushups first thing tomorrow morning before work. Should have at least another 50 on the chart by 06:00.

That all said, I managed over 10,000 steps today, and had my heart rate above 140 for over 300 minutes. For me, this is a good start of 2024.

I’m 80 and hit the gym 5-6 days a week. Always start off with a set of push ups. I aim for 40 but today did 45. One of the pros in the exercise field commented last week after watching me that it was impressive. Made me feel good.

I admire this.

My knees are not taking well to resuming running again so I'm taking it slowly in that area.

Welcome to the party.

see if you can knock out 50 tomorrow or Wednesday and 50 on Friday.

Then see if 55 is in reach next week.

Thanks! They're effective. Especially when done on the clock.

I seem to have gravitated to several exercises that are based on planking. My "favorite" is a reverse plank with splits and crunches with the feet suspended 24" off the floor with a TRX rig. I tried it once and my hips hurt so bad, I had to stop and do a bunch of ITB work to get my hips into good enough shape to handle them. It took me more than a month to be able to do 20 reps.

It's kind of like this but with a crunch in between each split.

TRX- Reverse plank with abduction [w]
