I started another thread tonight on this. I didn’t realize this thread was out there. Here is my post.
——- vaguely remember the original one when it came out. We were fairly young so we missed the depth of the show but we all wanted to be Samurai. This one has some magnificent cinematography. The color grading and visuals are stunning. I also didn’t realize it was “based” on historical events and historic people. The dialogue between John Blackthorn and Rodriguez is pretty awesome and funny. In general, Blackthorn has a some funny dialogue especially considering it is a period piece. “Sorry about your sack of shit lord” When it looks like Lord Yabushige died after falling on the rocks. |

Its not as good as the original!
And there have been a few B Kung Fu movie moments. But it is watchable! |

She totally rated -san, that was an honorific for all Samurai.
For a woman to demand -sama? Fucking laughable. -chan would only be used for an intimate or very dear friend of the opposite sex. Though judging by what was almost offered to Anjin-san, I suppose duck-chan could have been appropriate… |

She was extremely powerful, using her cunning and guile to get what she wanted and what was best for Anjin and Toronaga. Modern feminists can’t grasp the kind of power a woman like Mariko had, so they had to make her some kind of sword master killing machine. |

You never saw that in the original. And all the CGI is so fucking outstanding with the palaces/ castles, mixed in along with real nature camera stuff. Lopping off heads with minimal effort or thought. Zero exaggerated fight drama. Stabby/ slicey purposeful death. Super clean, smooth effortless technique- efficient. Get 'er done. |

In the 17th century, and even to this day in some cases, game such as pheasants and other birds were often hung after being obtained. The reason for this stemmed from personal taste, with the process of hanging creatures like pheasants making the meat more ripe, thus tasting better upon being cooked. Some even preferred to allow pheasants to rot. |

According to Field & Stream, it’s normal to let pheasants mature, untouched, for a couple days in conditions of 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The decaying process not only makes it easier to skin and feather the bird, but it also tenderizes the meat. Animals experience rigor mortis in the twenty-four hours after they die, which causes a tightening of the muscles that can lead to tougher meat |
