Nine Inch Nails "Closer"

Fun Factoid.  When it first came out, the Administration at Southwest Texas (now Texas State) banned the school radio station from playing it for very sexually explicit lyrics.

So the school DJs played "Closer" back to back to back continually for 24 hours straight.

I got to "help" with that video (shot entirely around Austin TX).

My roommate was a R.T.F. major (Radio Television Film) at U.T. in Austin. so he was assigned to go with the crew doing the filming for the Music Video as O.T.J. real education.

So, my roommate asks "Hey Hammer! Want to meet & hang out with World Famous rock band - The Clash?".  So I was an unpaid "Volunteer" grip - go'fer - "hey You hold this" hero "helping" in the shoot.

I can still pick out all the places & locations (most long since torn down & paved over) in Cool & Funky Austin of the 80's. It was a very low budget shoot, but it was a hell of a lot of fun!

Fun fact: you can still find uncensored videos of this song on Youtube.  I'm not going to provide a link, of course.

ZZ Top - Pearl Necklace

D-Day  -  Too Young To Date.

Divinyls - I Touch Myself

Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know

I just don't see Taylor Swift & the "Swifties" doing a 'sing along' to any of those numbers anytime soon.

What if you listen to stuff that was never really publicly acceptable?

I know one song I enjoy would get a pp by the mods just from the title of it, and could put you on a list

I've heard some of those songs, and I had the same reaction. To the modern ear, they're just so outlandish, they make you laugh.
Try as I might, I can't imagine a time or place where they would ever be socially acceptable in mainstream society.

Heck, that bothered people in the 80's. I can remember when the "Standing On A Beach" greatest hits album came out, it had to have a warning sticker on it.
That was one of the first times I can remember, as a kid, getting really angry about how stupid the public was. Lord knows, it wasn't the last.

I only know the song because it was used in Miller beer commercial

"Miller made the American way
Born and brew in the USA
Just as proud as the people drinking it today
Miller made the American way."

Holy shit 40 years and it's still in my head

That ain't too bad. It's not something I'd bump at work, but I don't think I'd take incoming if I had it blaring at a red light. When I think of publicly unacceptable, I think of shit like Skrewdriver. If you're blasting Skrewdriver at a redlight, you'd better be prepared to ante up.

I love Bloodhound Gang. I can't sing worth a shit, but I can sing along to them easily.

In a related note, the offspring also pulled a song off their first album, but it might become "socially acceptable" again if Trump wins. At least acceptable in blue states/cities. I got a pp slap here for using the song title once, so I'm not risking it again
