Any words of wisdom in regards to magazines? Namely, will the only accept ESEE mags or will the Trailside ones work as well? Are there aftermarket magazines available?

It has a nub that sticks up and that is what the slide impacts moving rear ward. I bought spares from Larry's and threw them in the bag. Never have needed one though. The Trailside is a laser beam and the trigger is easy to make pretty damn good. |

They fixed the trigger guard issue on the newer ones. The trigger on the expert model is supposed to be updated Larry type not sure if ipsc , long or sport versions are the same.
My Buds blowout Expert has a pretty nice trigger, solid two stage with clean break. I have a good selection of 22 Target Pistols but still caved and ordered a Long model from PSA. The blowout prices on Xesse's is a deal not to pass up if you are looking for a oob competition grade 22. |

That's awesome BTW. I've used a few Feinwerkbau 10m air pistols with fancy grips and a balanced frame (using the weights) and it's incredible how it just becomes an extension of your arm. With the air pistols it feels like you're just finger pointing at the target and the next second a perfectly sized widecutter hole appears exactly where you pointed (lack of recoil too). They've always made some really cool 10m match air pistols over the years. Really want one of their early single stroke pneumatics like a 100 series. |

View Quote I think the only difference is the ipsc has a larger silver colored safety lever for easier operation + position ID and 3 width front sight+ some minor cosmetic stuff . Not going to shoot steel / action matches with it so the cheaper cost was the reason for going for Long model. One of the club guys has one and it is a nice piece and the regular sights were fine. |

I got a sport model on the way. I have the Sig Hammerli Trailside too and already have 6ish magazines stockpiled over the years. Magazine compatibility made the decision to go for it easier. Frankly, these are not worth anywhere near the MSRP, but I’ve been seeing them over the years at about 1k so this does seem like a better deal than normal.
I love my trailside, never malfunctioned and is it accurate and rugged. Now that I’ll have this version I’ll be a little bit more open to beating up the trailside, and keep this one as a safe queen that I’ll shoot once a year. |

Early Trailsides with that issue can be fixed with a small amount of filing to get the trigger guard to fully seat. IIRC, E-esses started at $600+ when they were first introduced so PSA's sale prices are really good considering inflation. Another difference between the target Trailside like mine and the X-esse is that the X-esse has an upgraded adjustable rear target sight. You can see the difference by comparing my photos with PSA's. PSA's description of one of the X-esse models states that the slide is made of steel. I think they are actually aluminum unless there has been a recent change/option. If the slide is steel, that would eliminate the slide stop issue, but I've not seen or handled any of the recent models. View Quote This is my snag. They mark it as a XF model. I am not sure I have seen that. The steel slides are marked SF. I don’t want an aluminum slide Xesse. |

View Quote I use a small nail wedged into a tack-hammer. Do the edges and the details first, then relax and fill in the area. Rink uses Scheroll oil, but I like Tung oil better. With some practice you can match the texture that Rink uses. Brownells has stippling punches in their catalog but using two hands (punch and hammer) is tough on the odd shape of anatomical grips. For pistol frames I like coarse air chisel stippling like the Army Marksmanship Unit armourers used to do. |
