I have some gripes- like flying T60 armor without a jet pack- but those gripes are minor. IMHO overall it was a well done first season. I only hope they continue on this trajectory and not fuck it up with woke.
Cooper Howard/The Ghoul is an outstanding character. I also think they did an amazing job bringing the T60 power armor into live action. |

Yeah, that’s what I mean. It was well done. Looking at a mesh rip from Fallout 4, the armor has all sorts of clashes as it operates- moving and opening. Doesn’t matter at all in game since it’s virtual. But physically it’s a mess. Basically stated, I gave up trying to optimize the model for 3D printing. The team on the show had to manipulate proportions and adjust all the areas that impinge to make it work. They did an awesome job cleaning it up and staying true to the design. |
A few other (minor) gripes with the show:
1) cars were shown as typical 50’s sedans instead of futuristic nuclear powered vehicles like the games. A fusion core blast or two from them would have been a nice change of pace. 2) what was that drug the the Ghoul was taking to keep from going feral, Jet? I don’t recall anything like that in the games, the feral ghouls were ones who got too high of a dose of radiation. Fallout 3 had those 2 ghouls cooking Ultrajet from sugar bombs cereal but I thought that was more of a ‘breaking bad’ type thing. 3) not a real gripe, but it would have been nice to see a magazine or two, like Grognak the barbarian or Duck and Cover around. |

View Quote I think in episode 7, in a flashback scene Cooper was reading a Tesla magazine. So obviously +1 to energy weapons before the bombs even fell. |
Grognak was also briefly on the TV at the birthday party in the first episode.
I took the car thing as simply the production not wanting to have to build a bunch of practical vehicles or CGI them into scenes when just using a bunch of actual real 50's cars that look weird would work for most folks. |

As to the drugs, I think they are going to expand the fallout lore to make writing the show more compelling or easier for non fallout fans to understand. Wouldn’t be surprised if ghoul ends up feral in a season or 2. They certainly foreshadowed it. |

First time I binged it - looking for the overall picture. This time I am looking for each easter egg and bit of sarcastic humor. That is why I am enjoying the jokes more. The wasteland golden rule was one of them - it was both somewhat funny, and an easter egg to side quests which nobody really loves.

View Quote This is a mass media TV show being watched by tons of people that have no familiarity with the games. I've played them all except 76, starting with F2 as a kid. Fallout is my favorite video game IP of all time. It's always been bleak with tons of dark humor and flushing out things moving into the 3d games. Some of storylines in the vaults alone had more creativity going for them entire franchises have managed. My .02, I found the show enjoyable, and consider it an A+ for a video game show, really about as good as we can expect. Far as the woke stuff goes the IP has always included vault tec as an evil corporation, diverse characters have always been included, and the vault dweller we got here is a very attractive female that is not shown just completely kicking the shit out of everybody. It's waaaay above average in terms of no ridiculous woke stuff. Yes, they could still fuck it up and it's not the best written show ever, but as a life long fan of the IP I think it's a great start. I hope it's commercially successful for them because there's enough depth to the IP to last many seasons. |
