1Alive has confirmed Officer Schimmel faced discipline after an arrest while he was working for the Monrovia Police Department in 2023. Monrovia Police Chief Matt Wright says Schimmel was suspended for 10 days following an investigation into how Schimmel handled an incident at the town racetrack. Chief Wright said after the investigation, the board and department sent Schimmel to a de-escalation training program in Morgan County with another agency. She made a furtive movement and was non-compliant with a law enforcement and state-certified peace officer. For officer safety he was fully entitled to the action he took and you all would have done the same thing. She was making a move and he had to get it on.
