Last picture of David Johnston, 13 hours before Mt. St. Helen’s erupted in 1980. USGS Volcanologist; was on a ridge (now named Johnston’s Ridge which is an amazing hike btw) 6 miles away directly in front of the volcano. First person to report the eruption. Remains were never found, state highway worker found his USGS trailer remnant 13 years later.

911 call Bear kills a man Warning graphic content Cannot find the series of pictures but years ago a man went to do some photography and stumbled on a grizzly with cubs. They did not know it at the time but he started taking pictures. At some point he apparently realized the sow had other ideas and things were about to go the wrong way so he pulled out a revolver and started shooting. The film in the camera was developed sometime later and it showed his final moments. |

It would have been between 1997 and 2003. That LCpl went on to become a CWO3 flying UH-60s, following his old man’s footsteps as a pilot. I see him now and again and I’ll have to ask him about it since my memory seems to be going to shit. |
