While I was there they had a brand new Cherokee everyone was looking at and a guy drove up with a 1990’s model with the inline 6. The new model was much bigger, not sure if the guy was GM of the dealer or an engineer but said….”we can’t make them that size anymore because of all the new crash standards”. Look at how back then you could actually turn your head around and see where the hell you were backing up. Now every car has at least one big pillar in the way, at least backup cameras help with that. |

The size creep sucks. A lot. They need to knock it off. All the manufacturers do it too. Some serious bullshit when they ruin a nameplate with bullshit and big size.
Them old rangers were awesome. They can't even build enough mavericks. Gee I wonder why? What's that? An actually affordable vehicle that isn't 87" wide and doesn't cost 87k? No shit????? Hoo Lee fukkk!!!!! What a concept!!!!!! The half tons are starting to be bigger than the old HD pickups.... dumb. Simply dumb. The best is when the non CDL holders bring up towing numbers of the current crop of 350 trucks...... get the fuck out of here with that shit..... your illegal AF, assuming you even bought the right plates.... then tell us how your insurance company feels about your thoughts  I hope the other OE's take notice of the Mavericks runaway success. Even the price on the current mid size trucks of all brands is borderline cartoonish. 50-65k for a midsize???lol. Umkay.... |

I had an '88 Ranger S with the 2.0 and 1 bbl carb. It was slow as hell, which was good, since I was in my early 20s. I kept it for ~15 years. It was a little beat up, since it had been hit 3 times, but it still ran well when I sold it. Wish I'd kept it.

I really think the new Ranger would be perfect for me but they are a little too spendy. I was bummed that they killed the supercab with the longer bed as I'm not a fan of the tiny bed crew cabs although it seems a much better fit on the Maverick. I think the Tacoma and Frontier still have some trims with 6' beds.

I loved my 1997 Ranger, it had the 5 speed manual, and 4 cylinder, paid just under $10,000 brand new in 1998. Wish they still made them like that.

For 3-4 years this Toyota became the around the property beater truck for yard work, gravel…hard maintenance work, dings dents, etc. then we wised up and did an almost compete off frame engine/cab frame clean up and tune up. The whole truck was fixed and painted. Sadly the bed is not the original one, but we were thinking of making it a flatbed so it’d be more space for fitting all the garbage cans for one trip that it’s used for weekly. The garbage container is a whopping 200yds away from the houses…😂 |

I bought a 4 cylinder, 5 speed, standard cab with buckets seats for the kids to learn to drive. After 2 teenagers, I had to replace the clutch, but it was great. Because of the way it was configured, it wasn’t cool, fast or roomy, so no fears of a truck load of teenagers getting hurt…lol. I’m sure my son loved pulling into the HS parking lot in it. |

To be fair though, just on the property, depending on if it rains or not or how much rain, there are areas if the truck is there, it stays there until it dries and no 4x4 is pullling it out either, at least not without totally tearing up the grass/field itself trying to get in. From experience, this truck can do the hauling work of a 1/2 ton just fine, even at highway speeds of 70ish. I need to try some slighty upsided tires to see if I can get lower rpm at highway speeds though. |

I’d like to build a 1997ish extended cab short bed 2.3 5 speed if they made such a thing. I have a hopped up 2.3t out of a turbo coupe and I’d do some extended arms or Bronco ttb arms with coilovers in the front with a wider axle in the back with deaver springs on 35’s. Be a fun as shit gravel traveler/hunting truck that would probably get mid to high 20mpg and I could run it on good ole Iowa ethanol.

I had mine that I mentioned earlier in the thread where the whole bed and frame got smashed and deformed. And a buddy of mine fell asleep at the wheel. He hit the front passenger corner of the truck into a tree doing about 35mph. The dash board ended up touching where the passenger's ass is supposed to be. If anybody had been there, they would be dead or drinking through a straw and shitting in a colostomy bag. |

My wife's car got totaled in a hailstorm, so I'm thinking about giving her my Outback and buying an Old Man Truck. |

I don’t drive pick up trucks, but for some crazy reason looking at the pictures in this thread makes me think of all those chicks I banged in law school. The late 90s was an awesome time to be a handsome young law student. I still love A-line mini skirts, and over the calf boots.
On a whim I bought a pristine 1994 Mitsubishi 3000GT, and a like-showroom new 1997 Honda prelude. Maybe I should get one of those 90 pick up trucks to go with them? |

So having all the same “benefits” of the F150 raptor in the size of a normal F150 or a tad smaller… I’m interested. I ordered it on a whim. Because I had the chance at below MSRP - $2000 below msrp. As I got $1000 off for a pre order bonus. And my dealer is giving me $1000 off. I figure worse case, if I hate it / don’t drive it / whatever. I can get my money out of it. As currently they’re going for $10-15k above msrp. Just trade it and my f150 in on a new f150 raptor. But really, I think I’ll like it. I’m in inner-cities a lot just as much as country. My f150 is a little too big to take through the farm trails. As well, just driving inside the city it’s… hard to park sometimes. Let alone doing Detroit U turns. |
