The entire US national security team needs to be fired. There are excellent port facilities in both Egypt and Israel, some of which can be seen from Gaza. There is no reason at all for what they're doing. Politically and militarily it gains the US nothing.
Link Hamas Political Bureau Deputy Chairman Khalil al Hayya separately implied that Hamas would attack any non-Palestinian presence in the Gaza Strip “at sea or on land.” The US-built pier will be off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The decision by Hamas and other Palestinian militia factions to target the pier will further constrict international aid organizations’ ability to distribute aid in the Gaza Strip. Here is how they view it: Iranian TV thinks it's a plot to ship the people in Gaza to Cyprus and from there to Europe and the US. Others think it's a plot to steal oil and natural gas. Shouldn't be surprising to anyone. They've blown up or otherwise destroyed all of their other infrastructure there.
I just can't imagine how bad it would suck to sign up to serve/protect your country and then get blown up while trying to build this fucking thing. I fear the Israelis might have missed their opportunity put an end to that abomination. It's been over 10 years since I lived there but that hellhole was nothing more than a launch pad for Iranian and Russian rockets back them. I don't think most people realize how much Israel has tolerated and for how long. |
