Reached out to all my peeps in Omaha as well. Haven’t heard anything either. I’m guessing phone/cell may be down. One person a little west of Omaha said Iowa is getting the worst right now.

Yikes.

Figures. The media reported that Offutt AFB got hit, I checked in with a family member who works there and they said nothing happened. I guess they actually meant Eppley, the civilian airport way to the north...

Hmmmmm....Chicago or Tornadoes.....damn, that is a tough choice!!!!

Glad the DIL and the Kids are safe, too!!!!

(grew up in Iowa and spent a lot of my late teens and early 20s in the Deep South...so I have been through just about every type of tornado ( Southern winter tornadoes seriously suck because they are COLD AS HELL and often accompanied by ice storms and other fun...yay!)....like I said earlier; my earliest memory is of my hometown being whacked by something between an F4 and F5 in, 1973, if memory serves.

Stay safe everyone and prayers to those affected.  Just had a round of wind and pea-sized hail here.  Spring time here makes me want to move back to hurricane territory...

Offutt remained unscathed. Stratcom HQ did allow early dismissal around 1300hrs local.
Bellevue was also spared.
Still waiting to hear from by buddy in Bennington but I do have another friend out there who has talked to him & his wife.

Strange that Elkhorn/West Omaha (more affluent areas) took a big hit and everything else but the airport was missed.
I guess tornadoes don't check bank accounts before unleashing destruction?

Talking with some buddies that is in base housing. There was spinning and lowering in the clouds but this didn’t touch down until it got to Eppley.

The minden tornado first touched down a couple miles from our house. These tornados spent a crazy amount of time on the ground. I have seen some of that drone footage and I have prayers out for all of them. It also hits hard that it came that close to us and I’m very grateful that we are all ok.

That's would be my biggest fear, I do wonder though, can you see a tornado in the dark with thermal? Not sure if there are temperature differences or just fast moving air. I guess you would see the debris flying though?

THIS is why I live in Arizona.  Well, that and fear of giant squid.

Odd.  For all of the tornadoes that I went through in the Midwest and down South.  I have only ever laid eyes on ONE tornado.  IN ARIZONA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Az gets them now and then. When I was a kid one hit near Parker on the Colorado River. 1970’s I don’t recall any deaths. But I remember seeing a 12’x60’ trailer that was upside down between two others and none had any damage on the side. And a new Cadillac with a 2x4 through the windshield.  There was some shade cabanas by the river. Tin roof, picked up from one end and rolled the roof in a roll on the other end of the cabana.

Big debris ball from the SE Des Moines rotation/likely tornado. One of my wife's coworkers is probably getting hit by it as I type this. Radar shows it right over his house

Update-it barely missed him. It went north as it crossed Hwy65. If it kept going east he would've taken a direct hit

I looked through a bunch of different thermals in storms.

It basically get hazy until you can’t see much. The rain cools down everything and it’s harder to see stuff.

The front lens gets water on it and that has effects on your resolution too.

It’s almost like the equivalent of looking through fog with your naked eye.
