I can see the Hollywood exec making the original pitch - “what about Black Hawk Down but with aliens”

Big fan of the movie. I went to see it in the theater. Sure there are a few goofy things but then it is just lots of aliens getting killed by Marines and that made me happy.

One thing I have a hard time getting over is how effective small arms is against the aliens. I mean, these things traveled here millions of light years and their armor can't even stop M855

I like to think Battleship is a companion piece to Battle: Los Angeles.

I can't watch one, without the other.

Love that movie. I watched it a few weeks back with the M16A4 clone it inspired me to build.

Blackhawk Down is obvious for Army.

For Air Force, I'm going to go with War Games.

No shit? That is awesome! I remember sitting in the theater when the lights went down, then the opening theme music started. One of the most memorable movie experiences ever for me.

I know that Ground based Laser Designators exist for Forward Air Controllers, but just not sure how "portable" that big old gizmo or the power source / battery to run it would it was but it definitely was a plot point for the big finale.

Small enough that SEALS were going to lock out with one off of my boat. It was stored in my radio room as the most secure area on the boat.

I was down at Camp Minden when they were filming this in Shreveport, they used a shit ton of equipment from LANG.
(On a side note, they filmed Private Valentine: Blonde and Dangerous at the same time)

In the scene where they are fighting on the overpass, the alien infantry are bringing up that walking cannon.  It appears to be malfunctioning and the aliens are kicking it and you just know they are cussing supply and maintenence and being issued junk equipment just like any human infantry would.  I enjoyed the simple stuff that was written in to it like that.

You tend to make armor that defeats your enemy’s ammo

They used some kind of thermal weapons - they hadn’t experienced battle with us before - their armor would be geared to their enemies

I LOL'd at how they immediately send off 3/4 of the Platoon, while keeping the PL and PSG with the 1/4 ("One squad and a Machinegun Team") to deploy out on a Random Task.

Something tells me the Company CO had trust issues....

BTW, the Machinegun Team never appears on screen.  RIP, guys.

What I recall is that I have enjoyed it a few times.  I don't own a LOT of digital movies - but apparently I have purchased this one.  Guess I will watch it again.

Who kept an eye on the other 3 squads, who didn't go out after random civilians?
