We had a lot of bird dogs growing up. One of them was untrainable. It liked to run away. We had one trainer tells us, "I've put better dogs than that into the ground." That said, our solution was to give her away to someone who just wanted a nice pet, which she was, as long as you could keep her from bolting out the door.
Shooting a dog for any reason other than it being incredibly violent, is stupid. Writing about it is even worse. |

Buddy of mine who trained labs/goldens for a living had a female yellow lab that just wouldn't listen to him. He called me up and asked if we wanted a pet dog. lol...sure, one of the better dogs we ever had. Wasn't that great at hunting, but as long as you kept it tied in the blind and it was able to see the duck...it would go get it. I mean...for me...that was good enough. |

The only thing she did wrong was talking about it and putting it in a book.
So if the entire reason you own something is for its effectiveness at performing a job, and it ceases to, or was never actually able to do, said job, then you get rid of it, and get something that does. It's not a like a working horse you can just put out to pasture. It's a dog, and if when it's not working it can't be trusted around it's own owner not to bite, then it's not like you can just keep the dog around the house. Plus, going after the chickens, the dog has a prey drive, which is good if it can be controlled, but if it can't, then it's a liability to have around period. If anyone had a dog that made attempts at biting kids in the neighborhood, you would have it put down, and everyone here would cheer for it and say you did the right thing. You'd be an idiot to keep the dog/walking liability. A purpose bread dog, that doesn't serve it's purpose and turns on its owner...some of you need to go clutch your pearls elsewhere and she should have just let sleeping dogs lie. And I really hope you never spend anytime around working dog breeders and trainers, you'd lose you're shit with what generally happens with dogs like this |

Untrainable. And all this went down right after the dog fucked up her hunt. I have seen this before. I will see this again. Yep! I’ve seen it also. Most untrained hunting dogs will have a shock collar on and would have been electrocuted before it got to landowners chickens. |
