I have seen it many times with cc systems going down. I prefer cash because I don't like being tracked.

I keep cash at the house, hidden in my car, and on my person. It's come in handy more than a few times. Usually during power / internet outages. It also allowed me to pounce on a few good gun deals from individuals.

Most cannot count cash or change either.
Our cafeteria stopped taking cash and I have not visited it in the last 4 years. Putting a cup of coffee on plastic is pretty stupid IMHO. |

I usually carry around $500 on me.
If travelling several thousand is not out of the question. My cash is never in my wallet. Usually in one of the cargo pockets of my 5.1.1 pants. I have had a debit and credit cards since 1986. I also have my cards loaded onto my iPhone wallet so I can also tap to pay when available. Technology is not infallible which is why I carry cash at all times. |

When I asked at places like ticketing at school sporting events, cafeterias, and the like that have been transitioning away from cash to plastic only, the main reason I was given was they don't want to do cash for security reasons. They don't want opportunities for theft from the outside or from the inside that comes with cash. Some people are just too tempted when around/handling cash... |
