I can believe it. At my job, id say it's about 1/3 under 30 and 2/3 over 30. I really don't talk to the under 30 people much (I'm only 42)...mostly cause they r still in the party stage of life and I just don't care.
Anywho, I will say that when they ask about this kind of stuff, I do try to educate them on why savings are important as well as putting $$ into their 401k/457. Once I show them some basic math about it, they usually get excited and want to start contributing. But I do feel alittle bad for them in the fact that with today's prices/inflation, they are definitely at a little disadvantage starting out in life. The plus though is most know this you can tell they went from a more "liberal" thought process to now more of a "republican" type. Specially when it comes to theor taxes |

Theres no 401 matching, medical, or pension. So although everyone's in a different spot my options are live life and deal with the rest down the road, or drive a shit work truck, come home to a shit house, and spend my time dry firing pistols, and jerking it to my vanguard account. If I'm working 60 hours a week I'm enjoying the fruits of my labor. |

One weekend a month and you get paid for it PLUS healthcare benefit and another retirement. It's a win win. Your USMC time will count towards it, too. It doesn't work for everyone but it might work for you. It's called the Marine corps National guard for a reason. |

Another key point is not just putting money in a tax deferred vehicle for retirement but having a rainy day fund. Very useful if you have hours cut or job loss and need to move for your next job. And as everyone saw a few years ago, having a nest egg meant being able to tell the boss to F off when the clot shot mandates came down. Feels damn good being able to dictate your terms without compromise - that's freedom
