Marty from Haus of Arms is the guy that kept me out of a straight jacket back then when it came to Contenders. I only like old "G1" guns so I was always needing some part or another or I'd order a barrel and it would come with the wrong extractor...that type of shit. Thank GOD for Marty!!!!!! Gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, Holmes. There is a cult following that rivals Scientology when it comes to Contenders and also TC Muzzle Guns. |

About 30 years ago I watched a guy shoot a Contender in 45-70. I did not understand them back then and after watching that fireball and blast I was like what's the point. Now, 30 years later I would love to have a Contender in smaller cartridge as I now appreciate them for what they are.

T/C Compass was the topic of my only semi-memorable thread on Arfcom. I reviewed a .300 Win Mag Compass when they were selling them for $198 after the rebate.
My question was: could it really shoot sub-MOA for that price? And yes - yes the Compass really was a sub MOA rifle. T/C have always been masters of machining. Their tolerance-control in making Contender and Encores with interchangeable barrels is rarely matched in the industry. Just amazing. And made right here in the USA to boot. With the Compass, they leveraged nitriding technology to the extreme and paired it with their accurate but affordable barrels and a smart 3-lug bolt for a gun that punches way above its cost. Hope they come back with every line of gun, from muzzle loaders to Encores to Compass rifles and beyond. |
