I don't think them beginning the pursuit changed anything about the outcome in this case. They were far enough away and slow enough that I would sincerely doubt the driver could tell they were following him. He just hammered on the gas and sent it.

At the speed he took off I highly doubt he even saw them come after him for those few seconds, he was pedal to the floor, I don't think for 1 second he would have slowed down in those very short seconds after taking off, he's not looking back when going over 100 mph on a city street.

if those guys hadnt called that they were in pursuit 1) the wreck would have still happened 2) they would have saved themselves the hassle of pursuit statements/IA investigations

The people who do this tend to be of the sort that think the car is magic and will make them "fast".  I got a Ferrari. I got a Lambo.  I'm fast, now!

Well, here we have proof that ain't how it works.

And yeah I bet this guy wasn't belted in.  As if that would have helped him much.

Buddy was racing a BMW against a wrx a few years ago and when they wrecked I think they were 113+. I'll try and find the video.

Rough calculation  (168-0) / .1 = 1680 feet/sec^2

1680 / 32.2 = 52 G's

Assuming the car weights 4000 LBS, this equals 124 slugs, force is equal to 124 x 1680 = 209,000 LBS.....yep that will ruin your day

If the perp weighed 200 LBS, 200/32.2 x 1680 = 10,600 of rip apart force

That is obvious. A Huracan taking off from police will be gone so fast that them turning on their lights had next to nothing to do with this dipshit crashing out.

YOu see the car to the right bounce a bit which looked to prompt the driver to overcorrect and move into the center lane.

Young black male in a stolen car, you really think he was wearing his seat belt?

If I was policing in a city I'd really think about using two cars for traffic stops to box in the suspect cars. And/or have the extra officer drop a small spike strip in front of the rear tire.

That race was over five seconds into the video.
WRX won.
But the crash wasn't half as stupid as posting video proof on the internet, if it was the BMW guy who released his dashcam footage.
Maybe that's FOIA video from the police investigation?

BMW driver wasn't the owner of the car. Ironically the guy driving the BMW owns a subaru tuning shop.

Police never found dash cam.

he passed the bus at 113, there was quite a distance between where the bus was and where he crashed.

wasn't exactly in a regular car either.

he could have easily been going over 150 when he hit that bump and flew into the tree.

Cars crashing into each other, while both going the same general direction are not equal to a car blasting a mature tree head on.

The telephone pole that the bmw went thru sideways was made from a very similar material as the mature tree.

That's pretty amazing, considering how bad both cars looked. They were dumbasses for doing that on the street but at least nobody else was hurt.

I have had the impression that Subaru does a decent job of protecting the cabin in crashes, but (having bought one recently) it is nice to see even anecdotal confirmation.
