I just read the article stating that Washington is seeking a replacement to the current Air Force One planes (there are three). Will cost more than 40 billion.

Just wondering if Russia has a similar presidential airplane.

We really need to be spending 40 billion on another freakin plane.

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot the Chosen One is coming in.

Intersting, also Interesting is why they where grounded for a bit, because of trouble to the brakes, Including the Brakes on Putins Jet

Has nothing to do with Obama, from what I hear he most likely won't even benefit from it unless he is elected to a second term he won't, it will enter service in 2017. Airforce One is getting old.

They are replacing 3 Aircraft, and these Aircraft will be holding our president... and before people say Obama, Obama, Obama Messiah, the first one won't enter service until 2017

They should go with a fleet of 3 777's

So when one B2 stealth bomber costs 2 billion, 3 modified passenger jets cost 40 billion?? WTF?

I understand that they will be carrying our President, I also saw that they are getting 3 aircraft. I just want to know how the fuck did they come up with a figure of $40 billion. More than likely they will be getting new 747-8's which run ~$300 million a piece. What about the other $39 billion? I understand that there is a lot of upgrades/modifications, super high tech shit and testing/evaluation
going into them. But $39 billion worth?

As mentioned in an earlier thread, the planes won't be ready in time for Obama to use them. However, the Palin extended family certainly isn't getting any smaller, and it's a looooooooong flight from DC to Anchorage...

For $40 billion you could have 250+ Raptors or 8-9 Nimitz class carriers or 133 normal 747-8's or 3 AF1's.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/747-8

The Boeing 747-8 is a widebody commercial airliner. Officially announced in 2005, the 747-8 is the latest evolutionary variant of the Boeing 747, with lengthened fuselage, redesigned wings and improved efficiency. With a maximum take-off weight of 970,000 lb (440,000 kg),[5] the 747-8 is the heaviest aircraft ordered from a United States aircraft producer, commercial or military.[6] It is to compete with the Airbus A380.

Those are too small, hell, they aren't even as good as the 787. They'll probably end up going with A380s.

Because the plane has to be able to defend itself (to a degree) as well as reliably command the entire armed forces of the United States without interruption.  Further, it could be the only place a functional federal government exists in time of war.  It isn't just upgrades.  The things will get total overhauls.

I understand the situation. I am just saying I don't see how each one of these planes final cost will be almost that of 3 Nimitz class carriers.
