I've got a 1975 Landrover 109 Series III.
4cyl 2.4l gasoline engine.

Funny story - they are supposedly "desert spec" (produced for sale to an african country around the 70's - but as that country appeared hostile (Libya?) the vehicles where sold off to Norway.)
They have really low gear ratio (a pain to drive on highways!) and heaters are installed after delivery.

This one has been FFR (fitted for radio), and I'm in the process of re-configuring it like it was around the 80's..

My Deuce

With one of my trailers ready to bug out

with my M105A1 trailer

some people say, what do you DO with a Deuce?
Well, they have plenty of room when picking up groceries

Or if you need to run out for some fast food

I got a cargo cover for mine and will be putting on the military 10,000 pound
PTO winch this weekend...next I upgrade the tires.....then I start
spicing up the interior with useful items......I love this truck

I'd love to score an M109 and turn it into a camper.......and I'm waiting for
a nice M1009 to come up....

what's it like driving a Deuce? EVERYONE ends up with a smile on their face....

This is not mine.   It's a photo I found on the internet.

But a friend of mine owns a USMC surplus M996 HMMVW, originally configured as a TOW missile carrier.   He is slowly restoring it to its

as-delivered configuration,  except that the fun bits won't be workable weapons systems.   They'll be accurate mockups made from

surplussed items and non-working components and maybe some look-alike fabricated parts.

Honestly, I painted it with rattle cans in the driveway.  I bought my paint from some guy online (I can't remember it right now, I'll have to run out to the shop and look).  He packages CARC substitute in spray cans.  It actually turned out really good.  I'm happy with it.  I've dragged it through brush, trees, cactus, etc and the paint hasn't scratched or chipped.  It's hard as heck.

Yep, I'd be very interesting in getting that guys contact information.  Getting CARC ain't easy and then I'd have to find someone willing to spray it on.  Does it look like you rattle canned it?  That's what I'm afraid of.  Streaks from painting with spray cans.  Looks really sharp from your picture.

For you and Gunwritr - It was Rapcoparts.com.   Look for paint on the left menu.  It's Gillespie CARC substitute.  He sells it by the gallon, but will also put any color you want into spray cans. It gets mixed reviews over on SS as far as color match.  Some folks say it matches perfectly, others not so much.  So, it may depend on the lot.  For me, it worked fine.  I went all one color so "match" didn't matter.  Like I said, I painted mine in the driveway so no dust control, nothing.  If you get up close, you'd never guess I painted it with rattle cans.  The hood is a little dry though.  It was starting to get warm out and the sun was hitting it.  One day I'll sand it out and repaint it, but it's really not even noticeable.  I painted the entire interior as well.  Plan on using LOTS of tape and newspaper.

The thing is, these are military trucks.  If it's perfect, it's not authentic.  Hell, I can still see the BRUSH strokes on my front bumper from when they slapped on paint once.

If you want to convert it, it's pretty straightforward.  You do have to replace the starter with a 12v gear reduction unit though.  I left mine 24v, but I figure if it ever comes time to replace the starter, I'll probably switch over to 12v.

Here's a great walk through on how to do it.

The starting system and glow plugs are the 24 volt components... all else is 12 volt.  Trust me, 24 volts is sooooo nice when you need to start these things in cold weather.

How much is the average price for one of those?

I have seen them go for as little a $2500 all the way up to $14000.  Mine is very clean, it had 9400 miles on it when I bought it on auction.  It is a ex Air Force truck.   Mine came with the rare winch and deul air packs.  I also have a 1987 M105A2  1.5 ton trailer with bows and top.  I have thought about selling them as a set.  If I where to sell them I would want $9000 for everything.  I even have the air assist power steering kit for it, I just haven't had the time to put it on.

I bought 6 cans to do the interior, then bought 24 more when it came to do the exterior.  I still have ~8 cans left.  22 cans, give or take.  My finger was sore as heck when I was done.
