I always have loved how the Navy isn't afraid to fancy up a couple of jets on the line.

Yep, I have many hours in Methuselah.  The Marines finally got her back, though.

Captain Van Bell?

Never met either one.  They were both just slightly ahead of my time.

Cool pics. Thanks.

In my entire life, I will never forget the EA-6B that almost took my head off at the old Glennview NAS air show.

We're sitting on the hill on the north end of the runway, an EA-6B rotates and you could see him nose it over to stay just off the deck.

I don't know how far he was from the top of my head ...... it was no more than 50 feet and he was pouring on the coals.

There is no way to prepare yourself for the noise that came from that aircraft. It was sublime.

Nope, that was before my time.  I was there in the mid-late 80's.

Question shouldn't be answered on a public forum.

No offense.

ETA: Nice pics OP. I also walk through there pretty much every day.

I can smell that mixuter of diesel, hydraulic fluid and JP5. That hanger smell.

The Navy no longer uses diesel for the GSE gear, it all runs on JP8, hydraulic fluid is now PRF-83282 and the Navy uses JP8 for its primary shore-base jet fuel.

I guess I'm showing my age.
