Some sort of S&W .38 Special when I first started. Don't remember what model. Ancient, lots of holster wear.
S&W Model 65 .357 870 Wingmaster That's it. It was the 80s and the chief was old fashioned and that's what he wanted us to carry. |

I've carried all kinds of small arms on duty.
Most of them were my own. West German P226 (in the academy and my first year on patrol in 2012) in a Safariland Raptor level 3 holster US/German frame P226R with Surefire X300V (since I wanted a light and I knew the post-2004 guns switched to MIM parts, I found an older one) Issued Glock 22 gen3 (just for my Honor Guard holster, but it was loaded) Issued Glock 17 gen5 with issued TLR-1HL (finally got issued new stuff in 2020. Yay! lol) I think I'm going to swap slides and put an Acro P2 on it. Haven't done that yet. Benelli M1 Entry 14" SBS (old LE trade-in I bought in 2008 and fixed up) with ancient Surefire forend Rem 870 12" breacher and rarely a 14" with rifle sights (the latter was for re-quals) All kinds of ARs I've owned.. 4. DPMS lowers with Colt 14.5" M4 barrels, etc. Ran my own PWA Commando with 11.5" lightweight DD barrel and SBR'd it for duty use (tax-exempt) and it rode with me several years (with AAC M4-2000) Eventually I scavenged enough DLA/DoD parts in LESO to build all of patrol MK18 10.3" and M4A1s from the agency's old M16A1 rifles. I took the last MK18 Mod 0 (CQBR upper) since I already had my stuff (but I'd rather have the agency's stuff) lol Steyr AUG - tried it out HK G36k - tried it out SIG SG 551-2 SWAT - tried it out (nicest of the old Euro carbines) M60E3 - don't ask M4A1/M203 combo - Yeah I actually worked a SWAT fugitive perimeter with this one. I didn't have the FD-203 standalone stocks from FAB Defense installed yet, but Chief and the SWAT LT knew I had just got in some new 40mm CS and ferret rounds, and they said bring the launcher. I didn't have time to install the stock, so I QD'd the 203 onto an M4A1 upper (despite the same chief previously advising me never to do that) and ran over there. He saw me with it and didn't say anything. Actually they asked me to recon and see if I could hear the guy inside the building, which I did but heard nothing. We used some hand-deployed CS (non-burner stuff because dried wood was inside) but he ended up not being there at all, and had left in the 5ish minutes prior to the perimeter being secured. He was later apprehended in MS. Attached File M14 - also for Honor Guard Did a 21 gun salute for our fallen brother (COVID death) and that was cool. (We practiced.) |

Two spare mags in my left pants pocket. Forgot the M97 12 ga. I used it when we did building searches. The Chief did not like us carrying "long guns." So I'd break it in half, had a nylon cord tied to the two halves, I'd hang it over my shoulder and put my coat on and walk into the building. As soon as I got in the building I side stepped the door/windows pulled it out from under my coat, twisted it together and loaded it with 6 rounds of 00 buckshot. My partner always got a kick out of it. Never asked if he thought the old hammer gun was wicked looked or if he liked it because he knew the Chief would be pissed if I had to use it. |

So I retired from LE in May of this year after 26 years. I now work for a private, armed security company. The private company issues us LWRC rifles, Glock 9mm pistols and has a stock of Benelli M4 shotguns. My entire career in LE we were never as well equiped as far as firearms go. smh....

With Norinco soft points for ammo. He had to use either a random seized rifle (he did actually use a seized .300 Win Mag for dispatching elk), or something he purchased himself, and he was too cheap to buy a Colt AR. So he carried his MAK-90….which cost only $219 or something like that! I was a reserve with them also, and qual days were a hilarious hodge podge of literally anything you might expect to see in the mid 90’s….for rifles they would supply .223, other calibers were on you. Those were interesting days for sure. |
