The loyal customers of, and believers in, Harrington & Richardson Arms, DESERVE this. Many of us have run the gauntlet to snag a lower, with the tacit understanding that uppers would be forthcoming, but only a literal handful have been released thus far. Yet, all this time, we've seen variant upon variant being offered up for sale, even though ONLY the M16A1 was made by H&R back in the day. Maybe, for once, what is needed is a run of, say, 1000 stripped uppers being listed. I, speaking for myself, am damned proud that I was able to build my H&R M16A1 (something which I NEVER dreamed was possible), and I believe MOST of us have been willing to be patient, but that patience is wearing somewhat thin. Mike, my deep admiration for what YOU have accomplished is second to none but, PLEASE, try to do more than simply throw a small bone to the crowd, now and again, by helping us to finish our languishing builds. It is only FAIR. Just my two bits. https://cdn.someecards.com/someecards/usercards/1340967745945_1427049.png |

I'm glad that I was able to get a complete XM-177 upper a little while ago. I was looking for an E1 upper, but they went out of stock. I just went for the slick side one and I'm super happy with it.
Went to the range to zero the sights and do some drills. I call it my LRRP LARP rifle. It's not a clone, just outwardly similar to some retro rifles. Attached File Attached File |

This is a little off topic, but does anyone know if there were any 635s built using uppers with the hole for a gas tube? I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever for a gray upper for a 635, I have a spare gray upper but it has the hole for a gas tube.

View Quote IDK if Colt ever did or not, I would imagine prototypes probably were made using existing parts. The one I have above uses an H&R non 9mm upper for the 635 and their 9mm upper for the 633. Mike noted some differences between the 9mm vs 556 upper besides the hole. It seemed pretty negligible to me. But one difference was the width of the carrier channel inside the upper needed to be widened with a couple of swipes of a file where the magazine inserts into it. Its doable with the non-9mm upper. Just be aware you may have to widen that a bit for the magazines to fit. |

Didn’t the Colt 9mm AR essentially replace the MP5 with, well, nearly everyone? Until 9mm SMGs were simply replaced by SBRs altogether? |

I don’t know about the other branches of the military or other SOF units, but we were using MP5s up until the CQBR came into existence.

I just joined the forum after browsing this thread, the 601 photo reference archive and a few other goldmine threads over the last couple weeks. I am very deep into the pre 1963 AR15 rabbit hole and I have a bunch of builds buzzing around in my head, some of them blasphemous
I ordered a 601 grey lower the other day and I'm patiently waiting for the slick uppers to come back in stock. I remember like ten years ago being stationed overseas browsing the old NoDak Spud website, just salivating over the stuff they put out. I seem to remember long wait times and the aftermarket small parts market was a lot smaller too. It's almost too easy to build whatever you want now! I wanted to thank H&R and PSA for what they're doing for the notoriously picky and hard to please retro community, and ushering in what I consider a golden era for cloning. Just bravo, seriously. |

View Quote We were using MP5s (mission dependent) until I had a break in service from 2003 to 2005. When I came back, they had been phased out for the most part. The SDs were still getting taken out occasionally after that. Never saw a Colt 9mm. |

Not sure what the military was up to. Should have specified that I was talking about law enforcement.
And, yes, I am sure there are exceptions and little departments that couldn't afford to buy new weapons. But the MP-5 was state of the art sixties technology, and it was being replaced in the nineties. |
